So after nearly 20 years of being in the same job I have an interview on Tuesday for a new job and a totally different career move.

I applied for a job in a whisky plant because it would have been the same kind of work but the company that I sent my CV to didn't send it to the whiskey place , they kept it to themselves because they wanted me to work with them instead of going to the whiskey place.

The new job I have an interview for is to be a recruitment consultant , way out of my comfort zone but if we can agree terms then I'm going to take it .

Wish me luck fellow tims because I really hope I get it

    Best of luck mate.

I start my new job tomorrow, a change in industry and career as well, plus some studying on the side to focus on - so I feel your nerves man, but you'll do fine. 20 years in one job, you can't be that daft ;) just be sure to big up things you've done in the old job and be positive.

Good luck in the new job.
Something similar happen,d to me.i sent an application for a position in a company as a general operative and meanwhile i done an interview for a job in a care home (domestic staff ),anyway i got offered the position in the care home start in a week or two.

And the next day i got a phone call from the company who i had applied for the general op position saying i was over qualified and would i come in for an interview for a position in printing which is what i do.i done the interview and the offered my the job which is better hours and better money and no weekend work.

So now i dont know which to take ,the care home job which means its a less regimental environment and im not stuck in a factory and id be dealing with different people every day so not boring but the moneys * and there weekend work.

Or do i take the printing job stuck in a factory all day and not something im mad keen to go back to but has better money,120 euro a week better and finish at 4.00pm everyday and no weekends.

    Love to hear peoples thoughts.

New job I'm starting is the first time I've ever done mon-fri and can't * wait. The studying on the side is gonna help me long term, and the current position is low-ish but it's giving me scoop to study and progress.
Depending what your aims are for the next couple years, give it a thought, but the idea of mon-fri for me is bliss, even if I * up my studying I think I'll be glad to be done by 4:30 every day and have the weekends and evenings never to miss a game, a gig, a party or anything.

Honestly as ridicules as it sounds iv always been the type of person who didnt know what i wanted to do career wise (still dont )and im at an age now where its all about just paying the mortgage.
Having said that i done printing all my life bar a few months and kinds fancied a new challenge but the idea of better money 120.00 euro a week better and no weekend is hard to turn down.
Iv been thinking about it all week and i torn down the middle, its wrecking me head as i think which ever i take i will have regrets.
There,s also the chance i could go to the care home and find i cant work in that environment.
It,s * crazy, its the story of my life always one issue or another and i look at others i know and wonder how the * do these * have it so easy?if they fell in * they,d come out smelling of roses.

Right back at ya. 32 and I haven't a clue, this is me doing a career change and studying that probably should have happened 10 years ago to be honest. No regrets of course, but right now the job I am about to start will pay my bills (that's the bottom line dude and make sure what ever you pick does that), and the studying is hopefully gonna help me get into a career that has some scoop to get above the low end of a salary and start being able to save, afford the better things in life etc and not be living month to month as such.

If it was me, I'd tell you to go for the printing job mon-fri for now. It's a job you know and can do, may not be the most fun and you may get bored of it soon, but the mon-fri and finished by 4pm gives you a lot more freedom to pursue other avenues and still have a social life.

Cheers mate i take that on board, your bang on about having the social life.
Some may not think its a big deal but its something ye can take for granted,i worked in a bookies for six months without a weekend off and it drove me mad in the summer watching people heading to the coast for a drink or a bit to eat and i was heading in to do a 12 hour shift.
And while i was doing that 12hour shift * would be in the bookies telling me how nice out it was and yet the dopey * were stood in the bookies all day, such a waste of a day.
