No really a review but foreign cinema is where it’s at these days, especially Asia.

So far ahead of Hollywood just now.

When you click what movie you want to watch the first link usually link A1 doesn’t work. Just choose another one.

    * love them mate.

The Night Comes For Us and The Raid movies especially are absolutely miles ahead of Hollywood action movies.

But in general movies like Train to Busan, I Saw The Devil, Burning are unreal and better than anything similar that gets made from Hollywood.

Hopefully studios actually listen to what the likes of Scorsese, Coppola, Tarantino have been saying but I can only see it getting worse with how Disney are buying up all the competition.

The fact that Scorcese has a gangster movie with De Niro, Pesci and Pacino but is only a Netflix release is insane.

Finally got round to watching Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Not really sure what to make of it, so a 5/10.

    Pro's
Very un-Tarantino (except perhaps for the last 20 mins). Good to see him try something that wasn't his usual genre exploitation.
DiCaprio and Pitt give typically excellent performances.

    Cons:
An awful LOT of filler to pad out the run time!

    Midsommar.

I thought it was right up there with The (original!) Wicker Man. 8/10

Watched it the other night was dead excited but agree wa you on the last 10mins , felt the whole film was just there to set up the last 10mins , would probs have it as one of his worst films , it just all seemed pointless

Shame as Di Caprio was amazing in it an Pitt was just Pitt (cant remember him ever being * in anything)

    Unreal film.

Florence Pugh was brilliant in it.

    Harriet

A period drama about the life of Harriet Tubman, mostly focusing on her life as an Abolishionist in the 1850's, including her heroism in leading so many runaway slaves to freedom during that turbulant decade proceeding the American Civil War. A fitting tribute and character study of a woman who was incredibly brave, bold and fierce, whose story deserves to be honoured and remembered. Every bit a worthy companion piece to '12 Years A Slave' & 'Birth of a Nation'.

    Judy and Punch

An intentionally uncomfortable take on the origins of these puppet characters, set in the mid 17th century. There is much to like about the film equally as there is to hate about the antogonist, who is truly deplorable and reprehensible. Well worth checking out... but not one for the squeamish, that's for sure.

    Midway

A war film recounting the events leading up to and occuring during the Battle for Midway in 1942. While it does skip on some of the details (the fatal tactical errors made by the Japanese are mostly glossed over and some technical aspects that are either downplayed or entirely overlooked) and the action sequences are solid. However it does require sitting through dialogue which is utter garbage and don't hold your breathe if you are hoping for any character development because it is entirely non-existant. Overall do think this film is slightly better than that atrocious Michael Bay film 'Pearl Harbor'... but that is not saying much tbh. Take of that what you will. :/

    Knives Out

A decent yarn which has some funny moments in this murder mystery, which is a better fit for director Rian Johnson than the travesty which was his sojourn into a galaxy far, far away. While it is not quite a complete whodunnit, it doesnt aim to be, but plays homage to everyone from Agatha Christie to Murder, She Wrote & everything in between.

    The Good Liar

There are some stylistic nods to Hitchcock in this and Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen are both seemingly having a ball in this. And any thriller would not be complete without a couple of twists thrown in. One of which is a complete blindside - even if it was a bit beyond simply suspending disbelief - but that is what makes for a good liar, I suppose, lol.

Literally watched this the other night again.

Loved it when I first watched it but * me is it better on a rewatch. Visually stunning and the soundtrack is immense.

Canny wait for Villeneuve’s Dune now after it.
