FC Midtjylland have revealed their brilliant plans to welcome supporters back to their stadium when football is allowed to return… in their cars!

The Danish Superliga, like other leagues across Europe, has been suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But the league leaders are already paving the way for their fans to end their imposed exile end get behind their pursuit of the title by setting up an enormous ‘drive-in’ experience.

Midtjylland have installed two giant screens in the car park of the MCH Arena, with enough room for 2,000 cars and 10,000 fans.

One screen is 46 square meters while the other is 52 square meters, but if it proves a success there is scope for more, to help as many supporters as possible get the feeling of watching live football again.

With action across Europe expected to continue behind closed doors, Midtjylland have thought outside the box and come up with a genius way to welcome fans back to the stadium while maintaining social distancing guidelines.

Supporters would pull into a parking spot in front of one of the giant screens and tune into commentary through their car radios to watch the match.

The club are also planning to stream live footage of the car par inside the MCH Arenato create an atmosphere and help players feel they are playing to a crowd, rather than rows and rows of empty seats.

The two-time league champions have described their idea as the best possible alternative to a full stadium.

And the best thing about it? It’s expected to be ABSOLUTELY FREE!

There will even be prizes handed out to the ‘best dressed car’.

“We’re working hard to create the best possible experience,” Midtjylland’s marketing director Preben Rokkjaer told Danish newspaper BT.

“Our task is to fill the MCH Arena, which is a bit of a challenge in these times. But we do not give up here, so we find solutions.

“This is not just a good idea we just got. We have been serious about it for two weeks and have been in close and good dialogue with everyone involved – police, fire authorities and the TV rights holders.

“The most important thing is that everyone gets a good experience, so we are ready to have even bigger screens if our tests show that we must.

“It is also our plan that we will get hold of our fan club and hear their thoughts on how to make use of their horns. They also have a stake in making this come true, because we wrote to some of our fans, and it was from there that the first little inspiration for the idea came. So we picked something from them and found this together.”

Asked if fans will be expected to pay for the experience, Rokkjær added: “No, I think not.

“It’s insanely expensive, this one, so we’ve gotten good deals with those who supply the big screens, but we’re not doing it to make money. We do it to give something back.

“But you can of course make orders for food and drink when you drive in if you want to, but there will probably be many who take it away from home.”

And what about when fans need the loo?

    “Haha, yes,” replied Rokkjær.

“We hope, of course, that this will be done from home, but if you are going to the toilet, you have to flash the lights, then a guard will come and pick you up and make sure the toilet is spilled afterwards.”

The Superliga plans to restart on May 17th, with the aim to conclude the season by the end of July.

Midtjylland currently lead the table by 12 points ahead of second-place rivals Copenhagen, and you could imagine the cacophony of car horns when fans celebrate what would be the club’s third league title.
