    Bolt Thrower - ...For Victory.

    As daylight returns
The fires of hope still burn
    Crawl through darkened light
    Sickened by the mournful sight
    Tears fall from eyes
Not sure what has been done
    Sorrow creeps throughout my soul
All is lost, none have won

    The battle smoke remains
    Begin to feel the pain
    Alone now stagger on
    Unsure how it begun
    Through time war previals
    Thoughts fears cast aside
    Face the consequence alone
With honour - valour - pride

    As fire fills the sky
    We once believed in life
    Now time to die
    ...For Victory

    Now in deaths glory
    Mans final destiny
    The final price to pay
    ...For Victory

    "They shall not grow old
As we that are left grow old
    Age shall not weary them
    Nor the years condem.
At the going down of the sun
    And in the morning
    We will remember them."
    "We will remember them"

    RHCP - Under The Bridge

    Sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel like my only friend
Is the city I live in, the city of angels
Lonely as I am, together we cry

I drive on her streets 'cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds and she kisses me windy
I never worried, now that is a lie

I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way

It's hard to believe that there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe that I'm all alone
At least I have her love, the city she loves me
Lonely as I am, together we cry

I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way

    Under the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
    Under the bridge downtown
    I could not get enough
    Under the bridge downtown
    Forgot about my love
    Under the bridge downtown
    I gave my life away

When I used to gig, playing this song was my favourite. The bassline is just so much fun to play.

    You'll Never Walk Alone
Living in colour, living in colour,
I can see the paint on your toes,
    Living in colour
Even in the blackout, I know

    I am floating, I, I am floating,

With my eyes closed, with no sails
I am soaking, I am weathered by the Winter of Mixed drinks

Am I dancing? Or am I simply just spinning in my own grave
You were asking, you were asking
and within two steps, Im saved

Living in colour, living in colour,
I can see the paint on your toes,
    Living in colour

Even in the blackout, I know

    Weak strong bands, weak
I was paler than a pine box that holds bones
She poked the iris, then pierced a hole
and watched the colour rush forth

Modern madonna, oh held my hand in
    warm hands, with pink nails
    mopped my mouth,
whisper and the sickness will go away

Living in colour, living in colour,
I can see the paint on your toes,
    Living in colour
Even as i blackout, I know

Though i dreamt with a rapid eye
By day i hope to rapidly die
And have my organs laid on ice
Wait for somebody thatll treat them right

And as the night started swallowing
You put the blood to my blue lips
Forced the life through still veins
Filled my heart with red again

Living in colour, living in colour,
I can see the paint on your toes,
    Living in colour

Even in the blackout, I know

Living in colour, living in colour,
I can see the paint on your toes,
    Living in colour
Even in the blackout, I know

Every little thing by the beatles, although i prefer the version by YES.

    When I'm walking beside her
    People tell me I'm lucky.
    Yes, I know I'm a lucky guy.
    I remember the first time
    I was lonely without her.
Can't stop thinking about her now.
    Every little thing she does,
    She does for me, yeah.
And you know the things she does,
    She does for me, oooh.
When I'm with her I'm happy
Just to know that she loves me.
Yes, I know that she loves me now.
There is one thing I'm sure of,
    I will love her forever.
For I know love will never die.
    Every little thing she does,
    She does for me, yeah.
And you know the things she does,
    She does for me, oooh.
    Every little thing she does,
    She does for me, yeah.
And you know the things she does,
    She does for me, oooh.
    Every little thing.
    Every little thing.
    Every little ...

    very simple but nice too

And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
'Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight

And I don't want the world to see me
    'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive

And I don't want the world to see me
    'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

Yes yes y'all and you don't stop
To the beat y'all and ya don't stop
Yes yes y'all and you don't stop
    1,2 y'all, and ya don't stop
Yes yes y'all and you don't stop
To the beat Comm Sense'll be the sure shock c'mon

I met this girl, when I was 10 years old
And what I loved most, she had so much soul
She was old school, when I was just a shorty
Never knew throughout my life she would be there for me
On the regular, not a church girl, she was secular
Not about the money, no studs was mic checkin her
But I respected her, she hit me in the heart
A few New York *, had did her in the park
But she was there for me, and I was there for her
Pull out a chair for her, turn on the air for her
And just cool out, cool out and listen to her
Sittin on bone, wishin that I could do her
Eventually if it was meant to be, then it would be
Cuz' we related, physically and mentally
And she was fun then, I'd be geeked when she'd come around
Slim was fresh jo, when she was underground
Original, pure untampered and down sister
Boy I tell ya, I miss her

Yes yes y'all and you don't stop
To the beat y'all and ya don't stop
Yes yes y'all and you don't stop
    1,2 y'all, and ya don't stop
Yes yes y'all and you don't stop
Comm Sense y'all and you don't stop
Yes yes y'all and you don't stop
You act yo we gotta be the sure shock

    Now periodically I would see
Ol' girl at the clubs, and at the house parties
She didn't have a body but she started gettin' thick quick
Did a couple of videos and became afrocentric
Out goes the weave, in goes the braids beads medallions
She was on that tip about, stoppin the violence
About my people she was teachin me
By not preachin to me but speakin to me
In a method that was leisurely, so easily I approached
She dug my rap, that's how we got close
But then she broke to the West coast, and that was cool
Cause around the same time, I went away to school
And I'm a man of expandin', so why should I stand in her way?
She probably get her money in L.A.
And she did stud, she got big pub but what was foul
She said that the pro-black, was goin out of style
She said, "Afrocentricity, was of the past."
So she got into R&B hip-house bass and jazz
Now black music is black music and it's all good
I wasn't salty, she was with the boys in the hood
Cause that was good for her, she was becomin well rounded
I thought it was dope how she was on that freestyle *
Just havin' fun, not worried about anyone
And you could tell, by how her * hung

Yes yes y'all and you don't stop
To the beat y'all and ya don't stop
Yes yes y'all and you don't stop
    1,2 y'all, and ya don't stop
Yes yes y'all and you don't stop
To the beat Comm gotta be the sure shock
Yes yes y'all and you don't stop
If ya don't check the be-e-eat

I might've failed to mention that the chick was creative
But once the man got to her, he altered the native
Told her if she got an image and a gimmick
That she could make money, and she did it like a dummy
Now I see her in commercials, she's universal
She used to only swing it with the inner-city circle
Now she be in the burbs lookin' rock and dressin' hip
And on some dumb *, when she comes to the city
Talkin about poppin glocks, servin rocks, and hittin switches
Now she's a gangsta rollin with gangsta *
Always smokin blunts and gettin drunk
Tellin me sad stories, now she only * with the funk
Stressin how hardcore and real she is
She was really the realest, before she got into show-biz
I did her, not just to say that I did it
But I'm committed, but so many * hit it
That she's just not the same lettin all these groupies do her
I see * slammin her, and takin her to the sewer
But I'ma take her back hopin that the * stop
Cause who I'm talkin bout y'all is hip-hop

And I like this one which is my favourite, Bill Wheelan's "The Seabird", sung by Eleanor McEvoy:
    The Seabird

    I dream of a Seabird
As it opens its wings to the gale
And as it soars o'er the Island
It follows the wake of my trail
And when the dark night falls
And the grey mists surround me
My heart is a small boat
    Your love is its sail

And I'll sing of all the love I have for you
And I'll bear with all the pain you want me to
For whichever way we may go
And no matter what winds may blow
It's our Nature that binds your heart to me

Oh my hope is for freedom
And it rises and falls on the tide
And as I sail on the ocean
I have one warm secret inside
    When the west winds blow
And the white waves are foaming
My heart is a small boat
    Your smile is the shore

I will sing of all the love I have for you
And I'll bear with all the pain you want me to
For whichever way we may go
And no matter which winds may blow
It's our Nature that binds your heart to me

    1994?

It's a hugely acclaimed song that uses a metaphor of a woman for the changing of Hip Hop from it's inception until that time. Do you not like Hip Hop or just this song in particular? It's a genuine question, because as far as I can see and any sort of review I've ever read has praised it without reservation.

I suppose if you don't like/don't know anything about Hip Hop it might not appeal to you.

Obviously with a statement like you've made I'd like to see something you consider to be lyricaly brilliant.

Jesus, are you serious? 'I live in South London', listen to yourself. I don't live in Glasgow actually, not that that's relevant to anything, but unlike you I actually listened to and read the lyrics to the songs you posted. I had heard them all before obviously, and they are good songs, I cannot argue with that. If you didn't like the lyrics I posted, maybe a reason why rather would trigger a better debate than just acting like, as I said, a pompous *.

    you'll never walk alone
    "Life On Mars?"

    It's a *-awful small affair
To the girl with the mousy hair
But her mummy is yelling "No"
And her daddy has told her to go
But her friend is nowhere to be seen
    Now she walks
    through her sunken dream
To the seat with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen
But the film is a saddening bore
    For she's lived it
    ten times or more
She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on

    [CHORUS]
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
    Oh man!
    Look at those cavemen go
    It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the Lawman
    Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
    Is there life on Mars?

    It's on America's tortured brow
    That Mickey Mouse
    has grown up a cow
    Now the workers
    have struck for fame
    'Cause Lennon's on sale again
See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns
But the film is a saddening bore

    ten times or more
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on
