People debating if he's good enough can't be serious guy is far better than boyata simunovic and hendry . Big ajer only one that would gee him a run for his money in terms of the pecking order.

He can’t be better than Boyata. He’s starting for the tournament favourites. Isn’t that right, @Murph-E?

1- Who said Belgium are tournament favourites?

2- Even if they were, how would that guarantee Boyata is better?

3- You're bordering on a hatred of Boyata the amount you criticise him. Just support the Celtic players at the World Cup ffs :56:

You’re taking this too seriously vert.
Boyata through injuries or whatever other reason, is starting for one of the highly fancied teams.
That does give him some credibility as a player & should be taken as a plus by Celtic supporters.
He’s not as bad as some people make out.
Put it this way, if he wasn’t our player & he was starting for Belgium in the World Cup & we could get him for £4 million people would be all over it wanting to sign him.
Fabian Schar wouldn’t be getting a look in.
Sometimes you don’t know what you have until it’s gone.

Whilst I agree with your point in general there's still bargains out there, it's down to our scouting department to find them. Pavard went to Stuttgart for 4m less than two years ago and is now a starter for France. Diallo went to Mainz last July for the same price and he's now being linked to Dortmund/Lyon for 25m.

It's definitely becoming harder to find realistic targets that would improve the starting XI but it's not impossible.

This is what I object to. He has been our player for the last three seasons, so we know his strengths and weaknesses as well as anyone.

Two middling performances in a Belgium jersey have not transformed him into a different player.

I like him, and I’m pleased for him - Why wouldn’t I be? It only helps us - but he is not the answer to our prayers all of a sudden because he is starting alongside Alderweireld and Vertonghen. We need to improve our defence, or we will be brutally exposed in Europe again.

Some adjustments to systems and tactics from Brendan would go alot further in stopping us being exposed than any sum we can reasonably spend on the defence.

Basing this on what? Hes looked average so far in this World Cup. I haven’t seen him play in Spain but I doubt playing for a team that got relegated he hardly stood out. Boyata has just came on leaps and bounds the last 6 months. Can’t fault him for much in his last 30 or so competitive games. I’m just interested to hear how your so certain Schar is better than Boyata or any of our other defenders.

No, you’re right about that. I’m saying that judging him on his place in the Belgium squad, rather than his near century of appearances in the Hoops, is silly.

Ppl denying his obvious ability need to take into consideration that the world cup is a fallacious measurement of a player.

Looking at messi in this comp right now youd think theres no way hes the best in the world.

How many players have blown the wc away, been "discovered" and turned out to be pure *?

How many of the worlds greatest talents have had a stinker at the finals but go on to preform for their clubs consistantly?

How many teams are filled with world beaters but turn into utter dross when attempting to play together?

Hes a 26 year old CB with over 40 caps who has represented his country at 2 major finals and counting and who has been plying in the two best leagues in europe for the past 3 years...

Players of this calibre are usually NEVER within our bdget but thanks to a relegation clause this one is

but * all that, hes having a * world cup

Lets go * another million on some walloper from the english second tier whose had a decent year, or lets find ourselves another hendry

It’s clear who the reply was to, seeing as @SUMMER TIME replied to it. Take a day off.
