Every single club involved in this should be banned from all competitions, 5 year transfer ban with the only players they can "sign" id from their current crop of youth academies, no signing new youth projects, no signing Senior players, nothing. Use only what you have now.

Madrid, Chelsea and City banned from CL, hand it to PSG by default to * everyone off, docked 40 points.

Fans are begging for clubs not to be punished and go for the owners only, sorry lads, its a PLC they are the club they make every decision for the club, the club should be punished.

    * all of them.

Can guarantee Uefa and the FA will totally back down and praise these clubs for not following through. Gary Neville moral crusade in fairness will also be put on hold when in reality what is different from this time last week ? The only change is that the champions league will even more of a closed shop.

If any good can come from this *-show then hopefully it’s that there is better CHAMPION representation in the CL.

By my understanding there are 55 European Leagues and 37 of those are professional.

My utopia would be a 40 team competition consisting of 10 (seeded) groups. The 37 pro-league champions go straight in, and the 18 *-league champions have a play-off for the remaining 3 spots.

Et voila - THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE! You’re welcome UEFA!

    :56:

    Never going to happen though.

Would never happen because it would be even less competitive than it is now.

Simon Jordan actually talking sense on Talksport and Jim White trying to swerve it all back to the sentimentality of the 'fans'.

I am not so sure about that, mate.

32 clubs from 12 nations (Belgium, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Scotland, Spain and Sweden) featured in European Cup finals between 1955-56 and 1991-92 (37 seasons).

20 clubs from 7 nations (England, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain) featured in European Cup finals between 1955-56 and 1991-92 (29 seasons).

Only two clubs from outside the top-five leagues (Ajax and Porto) have made a European Cup final since the Champions League began in 1992-93. None have made the final since 2003-04, and the prospect of a club from a smaller nation making the final today is vanishingly small.

That is partly because of the commercialisation of football, of course, but I think that it also a consequence of the competition format, which is designed to prevent upsets.

Edit: I assumed that Scootz had advocated the return of the knockout format.

Fair play to John W. Henry for issuing what appears to be a real apology and not one of the 'mistakes were made' kind.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish added that Uefa should change the qualification criteria for the European competitions, which favours traditionally 'bigger' clubs. Speaking on BBC Breakfast today, he said: "We have been living with this for as long as I’ve been involved in football, this constant threat that if we all don’t tow the line, if we don’t accept that their position in football needs to be gilded, needs to be special, then they would go off and do this. Let’s face it, this was an attempted coup to try to steal football.

"They still want to exert pressure on [Uefa president] Aleksander Ceferin. What Uefa need to do is start looking after the game and stop pandering to these people to keep them inside the tent because they are always going to be in the tent now, whatever happens.

"The Ajaxs and the Legia Warsaws should not be playing qualification tournaments in the summer, when they have won their league, in favour of an Arsenal or a Tottenham, who leapfrogged an Aston Villa or Leicester because it’s ‘better’ to get those teams in the Champions League for one year’s television revenue."

i wanted to see it fall apart as well. The greedy taking over the greedy, * on *.
Think the 51% was referenced because of the Germans not agreeing to join because of their fan ownership.

It might have actually been accepted if the ESL happened alongside the mooted Atlantic League with the revenue being shared out equally to all the clubs involved.
20 team ESL. 5 teams relegated from ESL and winners of top 5 leagues promoted to it.
20 team Atlantic league. Cup winners of other leagues replace bottom 5 from Atlantic league.
Have ESL winners play against Atlantic League winners for CL spot. Runners up gets EL spot.
Runners up of ESL play against runners up of Atlantic league to get ECL spot.
The revenue for ESL was supposed to be £6Bn over 5 years
Split that evenly for the 5 years between the 40 teams means total of £30mn a team each season NOT counting ST money or merchandising.
Not counting tv revenue either or UEFA CL, EL or ECL money.
