European Nations League 2020/21 - Part of WC 2022 qualifying

Scotland, after winning their Group in League C in 2018/19 European Nations League were promoted to League B and for the draw which takes place March 3rd 2020 will be in Pot 2.
Their possible opponents for this competition will be from following list:

Pot 1
Russia
Austria
Wales
Czech Republic

Pot 3
Slovakia
Turkey
Republic Of Ireland
Northern Ireland

Pot 4
Bulgaria
Israel
Hungary
Romania

Due to being in Pot 2 along with Scotland they will avoid following teams

Norway
Serbia
Finland


This competition will give teams a 2nd chance to qualify for World Cup 2022 in Quatar for those who don't qualify directly for that World Cup.
The first matches in league phase take place between 3rd and 5th September 2020

 

Did Ireland no get relegated for finishing bottom of the group last time. I was expecting to be in League C this time.

Just read up. It seems they changed the rules after the tournament had finished. * UEFA!

 

Scotland are ranked 21st and Rep of Ireland 27th with N Ireland 28th.
It means that it's possible that Scotland can be drawn against Rep of Ireland or Northern Ireland plus Wales in same Group

 

Aye but only because the * changed the rules after the comp had finished if you look up the 2019/20 comp it details the format and the criteria for relegation then at the end it says aye but actually as they have * about with the format disregard all of the above. Joke comp for me anyway tbh. I can't take them any more seriously than any other friendlies. I don't think I watched any of the Ireland games but never missed a euro qualifying game.

If we get to the playoffs then obviously I will take an interest but for most teams (Scotland are an exception) that will probably have more to do with how you do in qualifying than in the nations league. Ireland are in the playoffs this time without winning any of our Nations League group games.

Scotland won their group in the last European Nations League League C which is why they were promoted to League B
Whoever they get in this group, the same thing can happen which means they would be promoted to League A for the following competition which would be the comp that would be qualifying for Euro's 2024

No guaranteed WC 22 places ... yet it goes have option for 2 playoff places via Nations League ?!?

Only got half way through the fifa/uefa garbage. Never seen such a load of convoluted * which to me just translates as ‘make it so that the countries we want there qualify’.

This was set up to nullify the glut of pointless friendly games throughout the seasons. With little or nothing to play for ( other than get promoted to next tier) the whole thing just feels like even more friendlies ... just hidden under the guise of ‘competition’.

Might just be the point in the domestic season but feel nothing other than total disinterest to this.
