$$$. And I don't think it's that he doesn't have the heart to play for us. He was out best centre back for quite a while, after he was linked with the EPL was when his form began to dip.

It is mad how many people are writing off a young kid based on * all, they were probably saying the same about Wanyama, Kayal and the likes. We may be not be very interested in signing him, he may very well not be the quality we need, but none of us know that.

If Sviatchenko stays we need a centre-half, if he goes we will still need one. The problem isn't with a lack of central defenders, it is with a lack of quality ones. If we sign a first-choice centre-back, which I think we need to do, Erik becomes fourth choice and will want to move on anyway. If we move him on now, it gives Brendan extra financial strength to find a defender suited to his game plan. Whether he stays or goes, it won't weaken us greatly in the position and it could help us strengthen.

As I said earlier I like him a lot but his reaction to not being first pick has been to moan and huff. Rodgers isn't interested in that, clearly.

On the opposite side of that is Boyata who looked like the next Tebily before he put in a power of work in his own time to get back into the side.

Think it's clear we need a more experienced and commanding CB, to partner Jozo. Maybe bring this guy in as a project, but that pushes Ajer down the pecking order..

Its a bit dissapointing really. He started brightly and was really highly rated. A great signing of the Deila era. Unfortunate that he's been suspect for the last 7-8 months and hasn't really recovered at all.

Of all the players we've had at CB, its clear that Rodgers rates Erik lower than most. You have to think thats it's down to attitude. Not saying that Erik's attitude is bad, but how many times has he applauded Jozo, Boyata, and even Ajer and Bitton on their work rates and ability to grow into first team CB's?

Ajer is ready, Erik is expendable.

I want Ajer in the team so bad and think he's ready to go but I still wouldn't sell Erik without getting a suitable replacement in.

That replacement is likely to be of the ilk similar to Caulker and the Coetzee (spelling) which means Ajer is likely to miss out so I dunno what I would do.

Glad I ain't Brendan * tough job right now.

In fairness you can see where he's coming from.

None of us have seen him play but I'd guess that a 20 year old from a mid-table South African side isn't going to walk into the side and be an immediate improvement. He may well turn into a cracking player but right now we need someone with a wee bit more experience heading into the CL.

The fact he is 5ft 8 as well isn't ideal, we already see complaints from fans regularly about Erik and how he struggles against physical strikers due to being below 6ft. Normally in order to really stand out as a CB at that height you need to be pretty special.

    There's 2 reasons I don't particularly want Coetzee

    1. I'd rather have a centre half with more experience in a better league, and hopefully experience in the CL/EL.

    2. We already have Ajer, who looks ready to step in when called upon. We don't need another project.

Exactly, mate I agree. Think it's relatively clear even without seeing him play, that this Coetzee lacks the physical attributes and experience we need in CB..

I'd of took the £10m last season for him if that's what we were offered for him. Doubt we'll even get close to that now for him so anything I think over £5m is great, I'd punt him.

As we have seen with young Patrick, if he wants to go to the EPL I'm sure he will. Players have unreal power these days.
