Chelsea job will be '*', says Luiz Felipe Scolari

Working under Roman Abramovich will be "*" for the next Chelsea manager, according to former Blues boss Luiz Felipe Scolari.
Abramovich is looking for his eighth permanent manager since 2003 after sacking Andre Villas-Boas on Sunday.
"It will be * for whoever succeeds him," said Scolari, who spent seven months at Chelsea in 2008-09.
"[The sacking] is strange - although it's not so strange to me because of what I went through there."
Scolari, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2008.

In September of the previous year, Jose Mourinho, winner of successive Premier League titles with the Blues, had left Stamford Bridge to be replaced by Avram Grant, who was sacked despite taking Chelsea to the Champions League final.

Brazilian Scolari was then removed after only 36 games in charge, with Chelsea lying fourth in the Premier League.

At the time of his departure, there were suggestions some players were not happy with his management style - problems Villas-Boas has also reportedly encountered.
"Some things are known, like the relations with the owner, who has the relationship with some players before the coach," added Scolari.

The former Portugal boss also believes one of the reasons why Chelsea have a ratio of nearly one manager a year under Abramovich is down to the club's culture.
"England has clubs like Arsenal, where Arsene Wenger has been for several years, yet has won only two or three championships," he said. "Chelsea's culture is very different."

Villas-Boas arrived in London after winning the quadruple with Porto in his first full season as a club manager.

And Scolari, now in charge of Brazilian club Palmeiras, believes Villas-Boas will recover from his Stamford Bridge experience.

"Villas-Boas was a champion and he will continue to be. He needed to replace at least seven or eight players, even since I was there, but he failed."

Same here. Would be interesting to see if he could tempt someone like Xavi or Iniesta with a move.

Mourinho will always be the better manager(By a mile) for me unless Pep proves he can do it without Messi, Xavi and co.

I'm not sure about that, for one I know for a fact that Mourinho could not do what Pep has done with Messi, Xavi and co.

However it depends on the situation at the club, Chelsea need a manager like Mourinho. A very, very strong character who can take the flak, be a winner and control the players and his chairman very well.

Mourinho was a phenomenon in that situation and he done it mostly by gaining a siege mentality toward himself. The players and chairman backed that.

Guardiola doesn't even get on with his current chairman, who is not the taskmaster that Roman Abromivich is.

Pep would excel at a club like Manchester United or AC Milan I reckon. However I don't think his attitude or his style suits the like of Chelsea.

Chelsea need to get John Terry and Frank Lampard to *, they are like the Real Madrid of old. Two aging legends in Guti and Raul having all the sway and all the say in the dressing room.

Fine seems a little over the top at first but this is the 2nd time in two months , he has broken the club rules curfew about being out the night before a game.

Getting spotted in Liverpool coming out of a lap dancing club at 3am the night before a game is stupid.

Mancini had got this correct he now showing the players he is in charge and will not be * around he will have learned a lot from the whole Tevez saga.

Guardiola would be mad to take it.

Chelsea need to look closer to home imo, they've gone after high profile managers from the continent/abroad for over a decade, time for a different tack.

Give it to somebody like Moyes or O'Neill, proven managers in the premiership.

Or Brendan Rodgers, who obviously knows the club inside and out, who better to integrate the players coming up through the youth ranks than someone like him who already has the inside track.

All three would probably look at it and think GTF though, and I don't blame em. If Roman Abramovich is prepared to sack someone as respected as Carlo Ancelotti for finishing 2nd (evidently a huge achievement given the way the squad has dropped off this season) how can you be sure of long term backing, regardless of what he says to you up front.

I agree with everything you said there :50:

Managers like Guardiola, Rijkaard, Boas, Mancini, Wenger and that are suited to teams like Barcelona, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Man U, Man City and Arsenal(if they had the money) where they can rely on just playing good football with the players theyve got and win.

The other top teams really require the likes of Mourinho, Lippi and Cappelo even Martin O'Neill to get the siege mentality and battle every game for the points unless they have a big overhaul of their squads and change their ways.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but Lee Cattermole has received a 4 match ban and Sessegnon(sp) has received a 3 match ban.

Was not looking forward to playing them away but we can take them now. If Suarez or Carroll decide to ever get their shooting boots on.

We are the favourites. Citeh WILL fall, you have a tough set of fixtures. Something which you wont know about in the league title race is that experience does count, and none of your players have dealt with it before.

Yes, you beat us 6-1, what happened in January when we played you at the Council House?

Liverpool football club exists to win trophies. Even if we finish fourth we still need to win a qualifier. I will be delighted if we win the fa cup to go with the league cup this season. We're not good enough to compete in the champions league but we are good enough to win the fa cup. To win the fa cup and carling cup would be a very good season for us.
