    A real LEGEND of rock music. I love Van Halen , so deeply saddened when I heard last night. I urge any budding guitarist to listen to Eddie's work. He was a genius. Saw Gene Simmons on TV this morning talking about him. He was taking it quite badly as he was freinds with him. R.I.P. Eddie.

    One of the stories about him is that he used to practice guitar until he had smoked a full 20 pack of cigarettes. Explains why he got so good but it makes his cancer less surprising. RIP.

    He says the cancer came because he used to have a metal pick, and he kept holding it in his mouth while doing his solos. He says the metal caused it. I wouldn't rule out all the cigarettes he smoked throughout his life.
