It's a highly contentious question for sure, but with our first complete season without them coming to a rather muted end, I feel it's a question that should be asked.

Do you miss Rangers?

Now, I know many will immediately answer that they don't, but I personally can't see any benefit to us as a club from not having them competing with us. As things stand we're like the 13 year old kid playing football down the park with a bunch of 8 year olds.

We're guaranteed to win the league every season, and I honestly can't even contemplate what this season would have been like had we fallen in Europe to Helsingborg. Can you imagine a full season with only SPL football to look forward to?

I'm going to be 100% honest here and admit that I miss Rangers.

I miss having to win games because I know they're right on our tail, or that we need to close the gap on them.

I miss the enjoyment I had in seeing them drop points to other SPL teams, and watching them lose to minnows in the cups every now & then.

I miss the close season when the papers are all full of talk about who we're going to bring in, and who they are looking to sign. Comparing our signings to theirs, wondering if we've unearthed a new legend who can nab a 90th minute winner against them at Ibrox, or a midfield general who can completely boss them out of a game.

I miss waking up on the morning of an old firm game. I miss heading to the shops for some crusty rolls, a bottle of Irn-Bru and the morning papers. I miss getting * off at what so-called expert pundits have to say about the game, I miss the wee column down the side where simpletons would phone in with their * opinions (I've not looked at that all season), I miss tuning in to the phone-in shows after we'd beaten them and listening to their fans crying down the phone.

Most of all, I miss meeting my Rangers-supporting mates after we'd won, or trying to avoid them after we'd lost.

I miss a rival, I do not miss Rangers rip_1.

If Dundee Utd for example were taken over by a rich Arab (see what I did there) and spent millions, I doubt any one would miss them.

There's light at the end of the tunnel,'R*ngers' will be 'back' ,but hopefully it won't only be them who are providing a challenge eventually.It would suck if it just went back to the way it was before.

I love the predicament they're in right now though,no club or new club in the world deserves it more than those bigots.

That would make things more interesting, but I'd never get as much satisfaction out of beating United for the league as I did Rangers.

No I don't. I would like them to fold for good. I know that is harsh but for me I see them as a cancer that is slowly working it's way up the body and in 3 or more years that cancer will have to be met head on when the Huns get back into the top league. I don't hate them but I do hate the trouble they bring. I have a Rangers mate who is a top lad but he is not full of hate like a lot of Rangers fans. I have enjoyed them not being in the league it feels like the scumbag neighbours have been evicted and it's peaceful without them.

Going by our attendance figures this season it seems that some of our fans disagree with you.

As I said, the SPL is now like we're a 13 year old kid playing football down the park with a bunch of 8 year olds.

yea if i was honest iv missed the buzz of a old firm game hitting the local, standing outside waiting on doors to open on a sunday. hundreds flooding falls road in a wash of green white and orange. but sure they deserved what they have got and the spl has thrived without them but wouldnt mind a couple games in teh cup against them.

Frankly I'm not surprised the poll is so close on here ATM.

Some folk need to hate the huns more than they need to love Celtic.

Maybe that's why so many are turning on the team.

I reckon we'll get a fairly even split here.

I voted 'Yes'.

This season what we have missed, more than anything else, is a domestic rival - not necessarily Rangers.
Yes, we've dropped points to several teams over the course of the season, but it's not been sufficient to threaten our status as the Champions-in-waiting at any point.

This season, any team in the League could have beaten us on their day, but we'd have still done enough to get ourselves over the line. The problem is that they are all taking points off each other as well.

If one of the clubs were to put a real consistent run together (doesn't matter who), and put real pressure on us then I think the League - and Celtic - would benefit massively from it.

Sport is a competition. The League this season, despite the points we've dropped, hasn't been, because we all knew, deep down, that we would end it as Champions. The same can probably be said of the next few years.

I can't say I've been nervous before any games this year (Europe aside). And I've not felt as down when we lost games. Because I knew, ultimately, that it wouldn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

I miss the tension of going into games knowing we needed a result. The Glasgow Derby matches were special, and I miss the feeling of winning them - but that'll be back in a few years.

I think it has more to do with actual competition to be honest. I certainly don't "hate" Rangers, or anyone else for that matter.

My original post pretty much covers why I miss them.

True. But can that all be put down to Rangers not being in the top league with us?! Or is it more to do with the decline that's being going on for a few years now. I agree though no one is ever going to compete with us for the title the way things are at the moment. It would be nice if someone went and pumped money into one of the other teams so that we would have some competition.

I'd prefer a challenge but I hardly think that would come from a team who has Lee McCulloch as their star man.

If Sevco got their wish last Summer and were able to jump right to the front of the queue and come into the SPL we would still have won the league with games to spare, there would have been no challenge.

Folk are mixing up Sevco FC with the team formerly known as Rangers FC.

As you say, we are going into the league knowing that we will emerge as champions. Given that, it is pretty difficult to get motivated. I’ve missed plenty of league games this season when in the past I would never have dreamt of missing them. In short, the SPL is boring. Scottish football is boring.

We are not going to get a challenge from anyone any time soon and so, naturally, I do miss the huns. I don’t really buy it when people say they don’t. Their death has taken out so many aspects that at least made Scottish football interesting/exciting for us. Any challenge to us died with their death. That being said, I am happy they have ceased to exist as it is what they deserved.

I don't really miss them at all. Scottish football needs change (not just a superficial tweek such as play-offs) but an upheavel. I thought with Rangers gone this would be the perfect transitional period for the whole game. I want our rivalry to be based on football; the games against Rangers were fueled with religious bigotry that's completely outdated and irrelevant. They'll be back as Newco at some point and we'll play them again, but until then I'd like to see other teams grow in strength and the game as a whole develop.
