Surprised there isn’t more talk on this, it’s a more important signing than the manager for me with the stage were at as a club.

It looks like it’s to be Fergal Harkin and if it is what a monster of a job he has on his hands. What is the most important thing you think he needs to do?

For me sorting out the absolute disaster that Congerton left and the shambles the husk of a scouting network that Hammond was dealing with.

I'm gonna go out on a whim here..... I don't think Lawell or the board have a coherent thought between them. Hence this utter embarrassment of a * show that we're seeing.

Harkin hasn’t been hired yet as there’s a divide in the board, mckay doesn’t want him and I doubt desmond does seen as he still wants Keane

Still time for John Collins and John Kennedy dream team with Gordon Strachan as special advisor and his boy as assistant manager. Collins might even double up as fitness coach to save a few pennies.

I doubt we'll be getting a proper DOF in. At best we might get someone in that will use that title but not really do anything.

Someone should've been brought in months ago to at least start building a proper scouting network.

This is what people are missing about Postecoglou coming in. It actually doesn't matter if he's a great coach.

He doesn't have contacts in Europe. He doesn't have a pool of players he knows that he can bring in. I doubt he has super-qualified assistants that have been following him around Australia and Japan like Chris Davies goes with Rodgers. Most importantly, Postecoglou has never been at a modern European football club. He simply doesn't know what it's like.

It's a complete mess. If he was coming in to a well-oiled machine to just coach the team then I'd be willing to accept it, but that's not the * job we have on our hands.

At best he will do a good job and the huns will collapse under the pressure next season, but this club will continue to regress because it refuses to modernise.

There is no structure, no forward planning, no conveyor belt of managers, coaches or playing staff. It's all just reactive panicking from one transfer window to the next.

What Dom McKay should be doing is looking at clubs in Europe that have successfully modernised over the last 10 years and hiring in the people that made that happen to do that job here. That's not what we're doing and we will regress heavily because of it.

He is part of the City group just now mate. That is extensive contacts to European scouting networks, and so is Harkin who appears to be the choice for the DoF.

I agree with everything else though. The manager is almost inconsequential to me just now, we need to get the background right.

It is more important than the manager arguably, but I kinda lost interest in it.

For me, it wasn’t just about getting a DoF in, it was about changing the direction of the club and getting in the best possible person for the job, irrespective of their background or connections to us.

I can either believe that the best possible person for the job just happened to be Desmond’s buddy from Man City, a club linked to the current CEO through direct family....or I can believe that we operated on a ‘business as usual’ basis and got an Irish bloke that Desmond likes. Unfortunately it’s very likely to be the latter.

Hopefully he does great, but it’s certainly not indicative of the change in approach I wanted to see.

    I completely agree.

I doubt we'll ever seriously move forward while Desmond is at the club. He's an old man stuck in his old ways, obsessed with his 'Old Firm in England' idea.

I've always viewed Celtic as a European-first club. Winning titles is obviously fantastic but to regress so heavily in Europe makes us a failure in my eyes.

It seems to me they are withdrawing from Europe, only aiming for the money-spinning qualification from time to time. If that's how we want to go then it's not for me.

Daily Record reporting that Fergal Harkin unlikely to get Director of Football role and Maloney is being touted for a strategic role at the club.
