How many WhatsApp rumours have been true this season or any season for that matter? ZERO.

Would the DOF have a say in who the next manager would be, or is this solely down to DD ?

If DD has his say then there's literally no point in appointing a DoF.

To be fair Tommy Johnson proved one had a bit of substance in the fact Lennon never got his guy was mixed up though the WhatsApp message had it as Lennon wanted Johnson for coach and he got strachan

A director of football, technical director, whatever title you want to give him, is absolutely essential in any effective footballing set up in modern football.

They were frowned upon by everyone, myself included, but managers don’t stay at clubs for long enough now to create a dynasty.

It is imperative to have a guy who can carry on the ethos and long term objectives of the club as a whole. Otherwise you see a * like this year happen on the regular.

What would you say would be the main role for a DOF ?

For me, liaising with the scouting team, academy and the manager. Being a direct link between all aspects of the footballing department and combining them all together.

He should have a specific vision for the way the footballing department should be run in the short, medium and long term.

Have an idea of what type of player we are going to go for and build the team with a style of play in mind. Have a ready made shortlist of players with similar attributes ready for when they inevitably leave.

Most importantly for me, work with the manager and scouting team and present a list of players who are viable to the manager within our price range and come to a common consensus.

That’s why I’m not averse to waiting on appointing a director of football so that he can have a massive say on the manger we appoint as their relationship is imperative.

This has to be the first thing we do and sharpish.

I seen brendan has said that's the route we should go down, given the fact he's seen the club from the inside and obviously a very good manager id be inclined to take his word for it

Not that we should be using the Huns as a blue print for our new set-up but I think they’ve recruited much better than us since they brought Ross Wilson in.

No big name signings but players that slot into their system well hence why they’ve been able tinker with their starting 11 most games. We have spent big on loan players like Duffy who just doesn’t suit our system or playing style at all and even Elyounoussi to an extent because he doesn’t get a game in a 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 Diamond. Huge amount of wages that could have been spent bringing in permanent players.

People talk about ‘control’ a lot when it comes to DOF set-up. I don’t think control is that important if you have a manager and DOF with the same vision and beliefs. This is why bringing in a Sporting Director/DOF first makes sense so that they can be involved in selecting a manager that they could envision themselves working with. As it’s been said on here before the DOF can play a huge role in the longer-term planning of the club whereas managers come and go for different reasons.

Whoever we do get as DOF we need him to be here for a while so he needs to be a top choice with great experience. He'll probably be here long term and outstay the next few first team coaches.

Someone who should’ve had a role in our new setup.
