I said it at the time......if Boyata was fit and refused to play....he (Rodgers) should have kept it in house, he was the one who blabbed to the press.....he made Boyata a scapegoat.

Personally I think there is a * of a lot more to this story than what has been disclosed, the snake was singing his praises. Had that went down in the way Rodgers said it did he shouldn't have played for the first team again.

The way the team to a man, got right behind Boyata when he scored his first goal after that is telling.

Shouldn't be hard to get a defender who can actually pass in..

I think there's definitely more to the story.

For years Rodgers had spoke about how it's difficult to deny a player a move when they're going to be earning more than what we can afford to pay, then proceeded to stand in the way of Boyata going to Fulham and Dembele to Lyon. All at a time he was working his own ticket for more money. Out and out hypocrite.

Had he and Congerton been doing their jobs then replacements would've been signed/identified that would've allowed us to bank the money without it seriously affecting the team.

What part? Getting a defender in or getting one that can pass?

He wasn't fully backed at that transfer window because he was already working his ticket and wanting to leave Celtic in the summer 2018 and was told he was going nowhere....the club would have been mad to let him bring in big money players at that stage.

You make a really good point there about the way Boyata was received by his own team mates on the field when he returned and scored. If he really had of turned his back on the team all by himself no way our players would have reacted the way they did to his return. I do not claim to know for real exactly what did happen but I highly doubt Boyata was the out and out villain he was made to look like at the time.

As for him him leaving I think he was a good player for us overall after a shaky start and would have been happy if he stayed. That clearly was not on the cards from quite some time ago and so we move on with signing a center back to replace him one of our summer priorities I feel.

Well he could pass the ball, not a 100% but then again very few achieve that. If his replacement gets a game for Belgium we will be doing well.

I liked him, think over the last 10 years we've only had 1 centre-half better than him Van Dijk and some almost as good K.Wilson, Benkovic and Denayer 2 of whom were only on loan and only played about 70 games between them.

Will be difficult to replace him especially since he was the best player in the air at the club and for most of the past 3 years the only * with a hope of scoring with the head in addition to that he had good pace as well and could cover other players well. Ajer and Benkovic even though a very good pairing neither has the pace or is that comfortable going out into the full-back areas, Jozo is a disaster out there where as Boyata was comfortable and covered players really well.

He could defend no doubt.. but his passing was woeful at times.
