I don’t see him getting 30+ games here. He’ll be behind Jullien, Starfelt (when he signs), Welsh and possibly another centre back.

I think he’d benefit more from getting a full season under his belt then into the first team next season.

And that is exactly why we don’t fully develop the talent we bring through. Celtic are a team that play 60 games a season there’s plenty scope for him to get game time here :ange:

There isn’t, every games a must win for us. 15 odd appearances a season won’t do him any good if we get him on a 5 year contract and get him out for a solid season or so it’ll do us the world of good

Like we did with McGregor and Ajer.

He was so so tonight. A couple of very slack passes which would have been punished by a better team but he definitely looks as though he will be a player

We just played a champions league qualifier and he held his own... he’ll only get better around our club playing our system. He certainly won’t be playing that level of pressure football going out on loan to the likes of killie and notts county.

He should be loaned out, looks promising but you can tell he's still a boy and has that thin lanky frame. Be better to loan him out to a Championship team this season and get him playing and used to mens football and take it from there next year.

I'd be delighted to keep him here and give him game time. Don't know what it is about him but he looks like a loan would only serve to slow him down. Think he can progress with us rapidly if he's given enough minutes.

Totally agree. People are too quick to compare the success of Callum McGregors loan to every other player and expect the same results.

    And Kris Ajer.

It’s well proven that more game time as early as possible is better. It’s only going to benefit him.

Think every player has to be taken on merit. McGregor was nowhere near first team level and it was obvious. Murray has got something special though I think, then there's Welsh and Heljde. If Starfeld is a player am happy having them and Julien as our CB squad.

Massive potential and done well tonight.

Starfelt and Julien clearly will be lined up as first 2 options. If Welsh and Murray can keep putting in performances, they can certainly claim 3rf and 4th spot, but on paper we need a better 3rd choice with experience.

Should that happen (getting a 3rd choice ), then Murray needs to go out on loan.

If he stays here, he needs game time, off the bench every other game with Welsh, starting cup games etc.
Or out on loan for a season ready to step up next season.

He’ll be far more prepared for next Wednesday. The chances of him coming i tonight were slim.

For me it's just how he looks, he hasn't filled out. Ajer looked like it when he first came as well shoulders poking out, top like a tent. Don't see him getting a game once the new guy comes in, maybe a 2nd and Jullien fit, Welsh and Bitton, Urhoghide and Shaw able to fill in.

Would be better for him to have a full-season of playing every week against real players than youth team guys getting used to the strength and pace and movement of well experienced pros even at a team like Ayr. Will help him realise the weaknesses he has quicker and get him fitter.

That's actually the better way of looking at it. I'll reserve judgement to see if we're bringing in someone else.

The idea of it is to try and get him maybe 70/80 games before he’s 20, crucial for development.

    This.

It's why I'm so annoyed at how Welsh has been developed.
Got to 20 (almost 21) before he was given a real shot.
Lads 2-3 years behind his development because this club is useless at developing players from s young age and in to the first team.

Our approach to development was just signing hopeful 19 year olds and expecting them just to magically become better.

Murray has a lot of potential here but he needs that 70-80 games before he gets to the age Welsh is at now.
Because realistically, Murray at 21 should be eying up being one of our starting centre backs. That should be his goal and our goal for him.
He gets that by getting those sort of games under him by that age, at a decent level.

Was at the game tonight, this boy has some potential. He’s not afraid to tackle and is very composed on the ball. Agree with above a couple of slack passes but what a find!!

But then there’s also the idea of ”if you’re good enough, you’re old enough”. Who knows... it’s all relative to the situation. If we bring in somebody of quality that ange believes will be a starter and we have sufficient back up then of course a loan comes into play. If he doesn’t and Dane is back up I’ll be confident the young man will come good here in his own back yard. In ange we trust :ange:

That’s probably the issue, he’s probably going to be good enough but not good enough just now. So we want him to get to the point whare he’s good enough, that means a loan for me.

He could easily do that here though mate.
Because we don’t do it regularly doesn’t mean it isn’t possible.

Same reason players always try keep their best young talent and play them as much as possible with the team instead of loaning them out. Keep them around the team, give them as much gametime in the system as possible and they’ll develop far quicker.
