Francois Balloux, of the University College London Genetics Institute, said the UK may have to use a lockdown strategy "similar" to the one in Italy.

He said: “The trajectory in the UK is so far roughly comparable to the one in northern Italy, but with the epidemic [there] two to three weeks ahead of the situation [here].

“It is possible that a lockdown strategy similar to the one imposed in northern Italy may be adopted by the UK. The Covid-19 epidemic cannot be contained any more.

My post a few posts back explains the situation in Italy.

People are allowed to travel for work and for exceptional circumstances. Shops and cafes are still open just no * is going. Supposed to have a 1 metre space between people too.

Wish I had bought 90 rolls of bog roll now. As long as Asda are still delivering we'll be fine.

Oh, I would be worried, don't even think you'll be allowed back into the country.
Just stock up on wine, lock your hotel door and wait out the 14days. :60:
After that you'll be fine.

I've been in Austria the last few days and the lack of panic and hysteria has been refreshing. There's an acknowledgement of the severity of it and sensible distancing measures put in place, but less of the sensationalism and panic than in the UK at the moment.

It's still headline news and don't get me wrong - given the risk it poses to the elderly and vulnerable and the strain that thousands of cases will put on the NHS it should be taken seriously. But the fearmongering in the tabloid press has been ridiculous and the BBC aren't helping with their 24 hour coverage pushing fear and panic.

It's also highlighted the selfishness and stupidity of the general populace. Panic buying items there's no need to panic over or exploiting a near pandemic for personal gain.

seems the uk government is waiting a few weeks until it follows the route taking by italy.
so it would seem like a good idea to jump one step ahead of the italian route and close down the country now before it gets as bad as italy as that would give the country a 2 week head start and possible save countless lives.
but no, lets have cobra meetings and more cobra meetings. mental !!!
hope the people who voted for this westminster government realise what a bunch of self serving arseholes they've put in power, and if they survive, maybe then they can vote labour or lib-dem at the next election.

Definitely self serving but the last thing Boris and the flag wavers need is the economy coming to a standstill just fresh out of the E.U. They had no contingency plan for the period after leaving and this would send them into complete meltdown. Boris makes no sense and looks panicked whenever things are running his way. Add some actual critical action requirements into the mix and he’d run around with his head turned inside out and * running down his trouser legs. I think Priti Patel is waiting on an opportunity or crisis like this to twist the knife into her PMs back to slide into the job herself. A snake that models herself on Thatcher.
