Completely different types of players even if both played midfield.

Find it really hard to compare. Loved both of them.

Im certain we'd have been battling relegation in seasons 92/93 and 93/94 if it hadnt been for McStay and Collins (we finished 4th both seasons). They both carried us for years. I just think although McStay was excellent in his day he didnt score enough goals for the position he played and the goals he did score got less and less as the seasons went on.

The amount of goals Collins scored from midfield was what kept us alive for a long long time cause our strikers were pish. I think Collins had more to his game than McStay....not a lot of people will agree....but thats what the thread is about I suppose

Collins defo never had more to his game than McStay , totally disagree.
McStay could still chip in with goals bit he broke up play , started attacks and had a great engine , Collins a more polished finisher but as poster above said , different players.

If I had to put one in a starting 11 McStay would be first by a mile.

I think McStay was a brilliant passer of the ball. His vision was amazing. During the 80s he was the best midfielder in Scotland. Im no sure about him breaking up play. In the 90s Peter Grant had that job to allow McStay to create things playing beside him. He is a club legend and was a brilliant captain and ambassador for the club. He was also committed to Celtic 100% during our darkest days and spent his entire career with us. He could have left for Juventus but turned them down in 1992.

Maybe its just the way I remember the 90s but I thought John Collins did more for us during that time. I think he was a better player during that time than McStay. Maybe if you compare the 80s Paul McStay it might have been different. I suppose its just how you remember these times as a fan and people will remember them in different ways. (Although there wasnt much to remember cause we were pish during that time)

Yeah mate when he was younger he broke up play more and continued that with an attack , he was unreal then , don't get me wrong I loved Collins as a player but overall I preferred McStay.

Collins freekick at empty greyskull was immense amongst others he scored, outside left foot at Aberdeen to win 3-2 , think we were 2-0 down and him or thom got winner too , both outstanding, just folks opinion

You're just saying that because John Collins has got one of those weird accents and mcstay hasn't :84:.

    Ps. I agree.

If this season is his final season on the pitch then he will. It'll be like the last act of Zidane's career was sticking the heed in that Italian defender. That'll be Broony's last act as a player.....knocking Kent square oot the game.......Take that ya *!!! Boom!!! right in the chops.

Tony Ralston is only an injury away from spending the rest of Juranovic’s Celtic career at left back.

Sorry. Just can’t get into it. I find the melody a bit all over the place.
I like the words in the chorus but that’s it I’m afraid.
I’d much rather sing and hear something else.

Fair enough, I think as a melody it can sung very wrong, I think it is a difficut song to get right. If it was a generic pop song I probably wouldn't like it but the meaning in the song is what attracts me more than anything
