With so many players due to sign on the dotted line i thought i'd start a thread for the contract saga.

Celtic captain Jackie McNamara has called on the club to offer him a new deal.

The Scotland international is coming to the end of his current deal and he is waiting to see if he will be offered an extension.

McNamara admitted he was disappointed only to receive a one-year extension the last time he had contract talks and that he would like to earn a deal which would see him end his career at Parkhead.

"To be honest it was a little bit disappointing only to get a year the last time," said McNamara.

"I hadn't played that much before the deal was done and maybe they thought they would just give me a year to see if I could do it again this season without committing themselves to too long a contract.

"If they offered me something longer this time of course I'd be happy to take it.

"I'd like to finish my career here but I have just turned 31 and it is not as if I am over the hill yet.

"I've still got a good contract in me."

Meanwhile, Celtic defender Bobo Balde could face a probe by the Scottish Football Association after a bust-up with Jim Hamilton.

Balde reacted at Hamilton after being caught by the Livingston striker's elbow and appeared to push him in the face.

Referee Craig Thomson missed the incident but he could see the incident sent to the SFA video review panel

IMO jackie hardly plays like a 31 year old if someone told me he was 28 i'd believe them. No way can we let this one go give the man a contract.

Absolutely - sign Jackie up now. A fantastic player at the mo, and if somebody younger should come in Jackie remains a model professional and a superb utility player.

Now, an oldie but goodie...

Celtic chairman Brian Quinn says he confident that Welsh striker John Hartson will sign a new deal and stay at Parkhead.

Quinn told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I don't think that a move will happen. I'm pretty confident that John Hartson will be staying at Celtic, not just this season but for one or two more seasons to come.

"Negotiations are very well advanced and they are advanced in a direction that makes me confident that those Celtic fans nervous about John Hartson can relax."

O’ Neill worried by Balde delay

Martin O’ Neill is becoming increasingly frustrated by the lack of a breakthrough in contract talks with star defender Bobo Balde.

The centre half along with other key players such as John Hartson and Neil Lennon is out of contract in the summer. While an offer has been put on the table by the Celts O’ Neill is not very confident. He said “It is a concern now that we‘re in January. You would like people you want to keep at the club to have been signed up.”

However as has been the case before O’ Neill knows a lack of finance may be a problem. “If it was down to an extra year I think we would be reasonably accommodating. There‘s always scope for more negotiations but I won‘t get into specifics. We‘ve made him an offer and he‘s mulling it over. We obviously want him to stay but like everything else it might come down to finance.”

plane and simple we need defenders coming in not leaving. Bobo came on leaps and bounds under MON in his first season he was like a chain saw the way he cut down players, he's not having his best season to date but we still can't afford to loose him.

If Bobo goes and we get the usual transfer window jargon we will be in big trouble...

dont see howthey are gonna replace someone like Bobo...unless its with someone whois past their sell by date looking for the usual last payday..

Celtic midfielder Juninho is keen to sort out his future with the Old Firm giants.

The 31-year-old has been out of first team favour with The Bhoys, having joined the Glasgow club from Middlesbrough in the summer.

The Brazilian's current plight at Parkhead has prompted links of the South American moving during this month's transfer window.

West Bromwich Albion, Mexican club Red Sharks Veracruz and Brazilian outfit Botafogo have been mentioned with the attacking midfielder, who is clearly unsettled by his situation with Celtic.

Juninho is keen to have talks with Bhoys boss Martin O'Neill before deciding if he needs to move on.

"I do have a problem because everybody knows that I came here to play and I don't understand the situation I am in now," Juninho told the Daily Record.

"I signed a two-year contract and in the beginning, I hoped to stay here for that time.

"But if you are not playing, you are not happy. That's not just Juninho - any player would feel the same way.

"So I need to know what the manager is thinking. I want to find that out and then I will resolve the situation as soon as possible. All I need is clarification.

"The transfer window is only open for one month, so if I'm going to move, it will have to be done quickly.

"But what I hope for more than anything is to get my chance with Celtic and to start playing again.

"That's why I'm working so hard in training every day. I'm trying to convince him that I should be in the first 11 because I want that more than anything else.

"But I also have to be a realist. There is a transfer window and if I'm not in his plans anymore, then I have to resolve my life."

not really a new contract issue but if one player has to leave CP in January it might aswell be juninho at least the rest are in the side. Dunno what he wants to talk to MON for he's already said he needs to fight for his place.

I think he should be let go....maybe get some money for him and also to get him off the wage bill...dont know what he's earning but its probably quite a lot..

Hopefully MON will have learned that if someone cant get a game at a team like Middlesbrough the they are not good enough for the hoops!

* *...almost as good value for money as Lambert's last contract...

Why did Lambert get one anyway??....he will be off at the end of this one and will have earned a fortune while doing his coaching badges yet they are delaying in signing up the players who actually play!

I was under the impression that Lambert was going to take a role at Celtic which I would like to see with Europoean expeirence and the Tommy Burns could be going full time with Scotland.

Anyways, I would hate to lose Bobo, BBJ or any of our main players at the minute.
Any news of any Bosmans on the horizon??

I reckon Bobo's off on a Bosman. 'Considering a new contract' translates to 'waiting to see if an EPL club offer me a better deal'. And it's guaranteed one of them will.

Think that just about sums it up...we should have got him signed on again this time last year...leaving it to the last minute when they can talk to ther clubs leaves us a bit out of it!!

.... we have a nice balance sheet though ....... what a load of bollox.

in fairness to Mordor, they did a nice bt of business over Boumsong. don't think
our board would have that foresight myself

How come Rangers can get good business by making 8million from Boumsong when we waste 1.5m on a fairy who is "too good for Celtic" and waste a * load of cash on a Brazillian smurf who never starts a match!? If you ask me it's back to the days when Rangers were dominant(well next season will be)

You could be onto something Mark - the scouting setup at celtic must be absolute * if all we can come up with is a reserve team player and a Division 1 striker with 8 goals. Both from inside Britain. Fecks me off.

Lennon offered new deal 08/01/05
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has offered Neil Lennon a 12-month contract extension with the possibility of adding a further year depending on appearances.

The Northern Irishman insists he would have no hesitation in giving his countryman a longer-term contract had he been younger - but Lennon turns 34 in June. John Hartson received a two-year extension with the option for a further year, but he is aged just 29.

O'Neill brought Lennon to Parkhead from Leicester in 2000 but he is backing him to stay at the club beyond the summer of 2006. He explained: "Something we've been debating with his agent is adding a second-year option to his contract which will kick in if he makes a certain number of appearances in the next year. I've no doubt Neil feels he can do precisely that. I'm sure he will welcome any sort of competition from new players. Can he do it next season? Absolutely."

O'Neill is backing Hartson, Lennon and the older players to keep leading them to success in the coming years, which is why he has not been looking to ship them out for new signings.

He continued: "The first thing you would do is look at the players here, especially those who have done so well. The question is whether John Hartson and Neil Lennon are capable of doing the job for Celtic that they've been doing.

"The next question is for how long? Then age comes into consideration. John is relatively young, he's 29, and my own view is that if Neil Lennon was 29 I would have been knocking his door down looking for him to sign a lengthy contract.

"Age catches up with everybody and when is the right time to replace? Alan Thompson and Chris Sutton signed new deals last year and we considered how long we thought they were still capable of doing it. My view is that they can sustain it.

"They will go through periods when they're not playing well, but the overall picture is that they are capable of doing the job for us. You then want to supplement the squad with the sort of quality which will sustain you in European football. These players have done that and what you're looking for is other players who can play against Barcelona and Milan. That's difficult in today's climate.

"Neil Lennon's been here a fairly lengthy time now and he's proved his worth. His attitude has kept him going. He does a lot of work people don't know about, spending half an hour in the gym on his day off. He does work hard."

Always thought that mate, where exactly does our scouts go to are they sitting on their arses doing * all? probably because it always seems the huns are buying players with their huge debts and we're just going back all the time

all there players are on frees and are past it!
players like tore andre flo, and nacho novo etc.., etc.. look like good players, but rangers seem to ruin them!
