I think Naka was a more gifted technical player. I like what I've seen of Commons so far he can go missing during a game but there are times where he has more aggression in the tackle than Naka (thinking of his 50/50 tackle in the middle of the park a few weeks ago against Killie to set up the goal).

I'd like him to become more of a hero than Naka is but I think he's got a bit to prove in big matches (Europe).........Naka for me by a baw hair:icon_mrgreen:

Nakamura was a tremendously gifted player, and to reduce him to "just free kicks" is pure revisionist history. He not only was a great passer, a great dribbler, and a great shooter, he also had a knack for the big moment: at Old Trafford, season finales, etc. While I love Commons and think he has the potential to be a legend for us, comparing him to Nakamura at this point is no comparison for me.

I'd call players like Messi & McGeady great dribblers, but Naka? He seldom skinned players.

Naka was good at home, and shocking away for the most part, especially in a physical match like Ibrox or Tynecastle (where he done absolutely nothing). I prefer Commons.

naka could of been considered as one of the best dead ball players in the world during his spell at celtic. naka also gave us something that many of the euroupes best teams do not have. commons is fantastic but naka is a celtic hero.

Commons has an eye for goal, better than most in recent years not just Naka.

But Naka was better in pretty much every other aspect of the game, range of passing, vision to see runs and balls nobody else in the team could, didn't have the pace to go past many people but he still had the skill to skin a player when the mood took him, and obviously he was one of the best around for set pieces.

Commons is a better finisher but in terms of work rate, passing, free kicks and all round style Naka is better.

Commons is more effective though. He is the closest thing that we have had to Alan Thompson and he seems to be a better finisher than him at the moment. Great purchase.

But to compare him to these two we will need to wait for the European challenge...

no the situation is this, its easier to score now, than it was when naka, played
the teams where a lot better, than they are now, just that we have to many passengers up front, and from the middle of the park, under performing. most weeks
take maloney, was never a goal threat those 2 games, what is the stats on that, what other midfielder has smacked the bar, with 1 shot, other than browns header how many mid fielders have had the ball even smack of there head at a corners, never even been that close to it. answer, nil zilch,

You what? This is our best season for scoring from midfield since Thommo, Petrov and Lubo had there shooting boots on?? Possibly better.

    McCourt - 6
    Maloney - 5
    Brown - 4
    Ledley - 4
    Kayal - 2
    Forrest - 3
    Ki - 3
    McGinn - 3
    Juarez - 2

32 goals from midfield without including Kris Commons. Goes up to 45 with him.

That's an excellent return from midfield.

im not voting, because it really is not a fair poll. give Commons six monthes, and if hes still playing like now, ill come back and vote him. but it is too be seen if he can keep this up.

how many goals did Naka score from open play compared to the return rate of Commons thus far? For me both players are similar with being hot and cold but Commons for me is a match winner and can score from anywhere, Naka was the type of player you would throw on if you had a free kick near the 18 yard box.

Atm Naka simply because he did it over a 2/3 year period commons has been here 6 months so i can't start comparing him to someone that has won the spl, cups, been in CL for successive seasons and was in the last 16 CL, atm you simply can't compare the two, come back in a year or so and maybe we can start making comparisons.

Kris Commons has done as much against Rangers in 4 matches as Nakamura did in 4 seasons.

Commons. Nakamura often struggled in away matches.

I loved Nakamura, and with a dead ball he was beyond compare, however, Commons adds more to the team in my opinion, and gives a balance on the left that is hard to find. His work rate is better, and he is more likely to score goals through open play.

    A real bargain for £300k.

I always felt Naka was a luxury, whereas Commons is a necessity.
