CELTIC target Cho Gue-sung has confirmed he is heading to Europe next month.

SunSport revealed the Hoops are chasing the South Korea striker, who netted twice at the World Cup.




Cho will quit Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors next month, but he wouldn’t be drawn on Celts’ chances of landing him.

The 24-year-old said: “There is interest from European clubs.

“After playing against world-class players at the World Cup, I want to advance to Europe.

“I want to go there and grow more because I met players from Europe and South America here.


The desire to meet again in club football has grown stronger.”

Celtic were boosted by Cho’s father advising him to go to a club that suits his style after revealing transfer negotiations are almost complete.




Ferencvaros are also keen on the striker and his dad, Cho Chae-hwan, revealed what the future holds for his son.

He said: “The advice I have given him is when he signs for a team abroad, to go to a club that can play the way he likes, rather than choosing a club because they are a big name.


He needs a club that will help him adapt and settle to a new lifestyle on and off the pitch.

“I know his agent is in the process of finalising negotiations regarding his transfer overseas


He will certainly go to Europe now.

“Ahead of the World Cup, I told Cho that this was a tournament where he had to show everyone what he could do on the pitch, and I think he did that.

“He has had a great time at the World Cup and I am certainly very proud of him.”

Cho first appeared on Ange Postecoglou’s radar when he scored against Yokohama F Marinos in a 2020 Asian Champions League clash.

But the striker then burst on to the international stage in Qatar with a stunning double against Ghana


He's also gained popularity on social media during his time in Qatar with his country.


On Instagram, his followers have increased from a 30,000 to a huge 2.5million.

Really want this to happen but I just feel that when the SMS get involved, they're usually not going to happen for some reason. Both Kobayashi and Johnstone transfers were confirmed very early on by Japanese and Canadian news outlets. Not sure if there is a major cultural difference between the way Japan and South Korea, in terms of the football clubs relationships with their respective medias, but I would have assumed there would be something more credible linking us and him.

And he was asked about interest from Celtic. The frontman responded: "I haven't heard anything about European clubs.
