People greet when it was Bayern Vs whoever every other year, now it’s something a bit different and people are saying city have bought it and it’ll be a * final :56:

I reckon it’ll be a decent game and would be good to see inter cause an upset.

That Depeche Mode when we score!!
Hope Inter beat this Horrible Plastic Corrupt Club!

PS I remember speaking to a local old City Fan just after Newcastle had their corrupt take over, he had the sensational cheek to say Newcastle cannot just buy the League!:56:

Wonder of Pep will fancy a new challenge if he wins the CL with them.

The transition to Stones going into midfield by Guardiola is a master-stroke.

    Ederson
    Walker Dias Akanji
    Rodri
    Stones
    Bernardo De Bruyne Gundogan Grealish
    Haaland
I thought they were pish in the first half of the season, just winning really though individual players but not playing the quality of football they were before. After the World Cup he was trying that boy Lewis at full-back in the Greg Taylor role and it never worked out.

Now he's came up with a centre-back doing the midfield role and the defence going to like a back-3 with 2 pace merchants at the sides and absolutley battering teams again looking as good as ever.

I usually don't like "new" teams winnig the CL but the * the best manager we've ever witnessed playing the best stuff we'll probably ever see so you cannot argue with his teams winning it.

I've not watched much of city other than highlights recently, what formation to they fall into out of possession?

Does Stones just drop into centre back, pushing Walker/Akanji/Ake wide and it becomes a 4-5-1?

Aye, for a few games they played Stones right-back with Akanji, Dias and Ake as well and even then Stones got forward so he did it from right-back or centre-back, either way they play he becomes the midfielder and Akanji and Ake the full-backs or Walker and Akanji it is now.

They do defend as a back 4, 4-1-4-1 i'd say although Gundogan goes deeper to defend with De Bruyne not being as invloved so 4-4-1-1 at times also with De Bruyne in behind. Stones just runs back into the centre-half position if the opposition have a goalkick or whatever.

He does it really well to, he just goes galloping right up the park and floats about conducting the game in like a number 10 position, Gundogan goes more up front with Haaland and De Bruyne plays more on the right with Bernardo.

He can run with the ball as well Stones, him Gundogan and De Bruyne even though they're not that fast take players on and run through people to open up space. When we play Taylor and O'Riley or Mooy don't really do that. Shows what can be done playing almost the exact same way as us but with 2 extra dribblers in the midfield area.

I feel they play really like us the now actually with only slight differences.

Like Haaland and Kyogo play pretty much identical, so do Jota and Bernardo and even Maeda and Grealish even though they're all different styles from each other. Haaland/Kyogo role is to play behind the defence and leave space, drag people around, they hardly touch the ball - weekend against Everton Haaland had 1 touch of the ball in the first 30 odd minutes.

Grealish and Maeda play like a defensive wide role but can threaten going forward Maeda with pace in behind and Grealish able to go on runs, both only really get average attacking numbers and play a lesser role in the attack. Then Bernardo and Jota are more creative from the right. Hatate/Gundogan and McGregor/Rodri play really similar roles as well where Hatate and Gundogan are creative, can run with the ball and get into the box and McGregor and Rodri sit deep, can also run with the ball past players, get down the left and conduct play a bit deeper.

Stones and Taylor is the main difference as Taylor also does like half a midfield and half a full-back role, where he does get about midfield but also down the left. Where as Stones basically takes on the O'Riley role for Man City and frees up De Bruyne(their O'Riley) to be a lot more creative and push down the right wing and Bernardo comes inside him to make runs - we kind of do that but it's not as natural for Jota and O'Riley as it is for De Bruyne and Bernardo.

At the back also we're similar with Johnston and Starfelt defending wide with pace and CCV in the middle where they have Walker and Akanji defending wide and Dias in the middle.

If we want to become better and play more like them then we might actually get away with Haksabanovic in the O'Riley role being naturally more slick on the ball and attacking and able to interchange with Jota more fluently than O'Riley or Mooy do and either a more attacking upgrade on Taylor playing more like an attacking midfielder from left-back than deeper midfielder.

They play kind of like this where Bernardo and De Bruyne switch positions quite a bit and Gundogan goes up front.

    Ederson
    Walker-------- Dias--------- Akanji
    Rodri
    -------------------Stones--------------Grealish
    Bernardo De Bruyne---------------------------------
    ------------Haaland Gundogan
    We play more like this

    Hart
    ------------- CCV------ Starfelt
    Johnston---------------------------
    -------------McGregor------Taylor
    ----------------O'Riley---------------------Maeda
    Jota----------------------Hatate---------
    Kyogo
Not that we need to play exactly like them but I think we would be better if we had an O'Riley/Mooy who was faster and more able to interchange with Jota and if we let Taylor go more like an attacking midfielder or even if Taylor became our McGregor and McGregor was released to go further forward but who knows.

Congratulations Manchester City on your recent purchase of the European Cup. It's only taken you what? 13 years and several billion pounds in wages and transfer fees but yeah well done, totally done on merit.

2023: the year the European Cup finally had its soul ripped out.

It's annoying to me that I really want to hate City because they're the epitome of modern football financial shenanigans along with a few other clubs, but can't help but really like Pep's football, and the teams * likeable.

Love KDB and Halaand, love Silva and Mahrez, even what Grealish has turned into under Peps coaching.

    It's annoying

Tbf I’ve been along to a few matches they’ve had with my mate who’s a season ticket and supported them since the * days….and even tho squad wise they’ve paid their way, what they do for Manchester and what they’ve done around the stadium for the youth/community is amazing. They’ve definitely done it the right way, not just come over as billionaires and pumped money into the squad.
Still after going to a few games tho, no real soft spot for them as can’t understand how the overall fans aren’t better haha. No atmosphere at all

Are Man City any worse than previous winners like Chelsea?

PSG have been trying for years and even teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid are funded by money they don't have.

Yes, I'd say they are. Love them or hate them Chelsea weren't a second division nothing club who was destined to be a nothing club forever if it wasn't for their sugar daddy. Chelsea had at least won some silverware pre Abramovic.

Chelsea has won a single league title prior to Abramovic. Man City had won two.

They've both been funded with money they couldn't generate on their own.

Chelsea won the 97-98 cup winners cup, won the cup in 99 or 2000 and had just qualified for the champions league just before he bought them. Man City hadn't won a trophy since the 70s.

Yeah, Chelsea were EPL and on occasion winning things. City were destined to be a second division nothing club.
