A top keeper would have saved that.

Just read on BBC they are thinking of fast-tracking it into the "later stages" of this years comp Dev. Not sure how reliable that is but would be a complete joke for me. When you enter a competition, regardless of the finances etc, everybody has to play by the same rules on the pitch.

They would be playing by the same rules though? VAR doesn’t change the rules?

Depends of your definition of "rules" mate. Which is my main problem with VAR. In every game there are literally dozens of fouls at every corner but once in every 10 corners these are spotted (even with VAR).

If you are playing by the rules that if the ref doesn't see it you get away with it then that has to be for the whole comp. If you are playing the "rules" that if one teams complains more to the ref after the goal or is the bigger team and puts pressure on the ref to make a decision then you have to do this for the whole comp.

IMO opinion VAR will do nothing to level the playing field or make things fairer.

Even ignoring that and going back to the competitions integrity. You could have two teams playing in the last group game and team A gets away with an incorrect decision against Team B. They both play again in the final and Team B exactly replicates the scenario and it is disallowed by VAR. That can't be right.

Did the ball cross the line ? Then yes. "Objective" judgements on was it a foul then referees already do this and IMO VAR is not about making soccer fairer.
