Can't hold back this game. Need to start with a good tempo and not bottle it

Our defence is good though, so although we worry about the likes of their attackers. We should really consider ourselves lucky that we have good defenders, our full-back 4, plus Gordon and our main defensive midfielder Brown would all play for all the other teams in the Group, so they might be better up front but we're better at the back which should cancel that out.

We only need a draw if I'm not mistaken?

Technically we need a win to ensure qualification.

Although we may not even need a point as I dont think Dinamo will beat Astra.

If Dinamo win, then a draw is only a wee bit helpful: it would mean that a small loss in Zagreb could see us through.

    All about the collective
the back 4 as a defence not individuals this season have been useless as a unit we just have two good players covering them

Thats mostly when Brown, Mulgrew and Johansen dont play together though.

Id be almost certain if fit Brown and Mulgrew will play with Johansen ahead. So we should be fine like that.

Just saw that this morning. This is going to be a tough 90 minutes on Thursday. We are going to have to be at our very best defensively in this one with how good Salzburg are going forward. It will be interesting to see who starts up front in Guidetti's absence. Personally I would go with Griffiths. He deserves the chance for me with the way he has worked and played in recent sub appearances.

Unfortunately football isn't a neat little logical package like that :icon_mrgreen:

Although I do know what you mean. Our back 6 of Gordon, Matthews, Denayer, Virgil, Izzy and Brown is the best (Lustig in for Matthews when fit) back 6 we'll have for quite a few years, considering Virgil and Denayer are more than likely for the off in the Summer.

We have a good defence on paper, but we will struggle to cope with Soriano and Alan, Soriano in particular.

Broony . mulgrew,Johnsen and Forrest must play, don't know my front 2 as commons hasn't looked that good since he came back yes good for a goal or two or something special but I'm thinking of the team my 11

    Gordon
    ---matthews,van-dik--mulgrew----Izzy

    ----forrest----broony-----kayal----johnsen

    ------jg--------------stokes

Keep commons, griffthis, sepivioc on the bench and I would say Celtic 3 Salzburg 1,stokes,broony.and johnsen or mulgrew with the goals,I think Delia will play a different back 4 and maybe just 1 up front coz if astra win and we draw european fitba after xmass and I think he will play for a draw but it aint the Celtic way

    Mon the bhoys!!!

Hope the troops are really up for this and get through without having to need a win in the last one but I,ll go for 2-1.

Looks like being just 37k, then. I honestly thought it would be 50k. I'm surprised. Chance to qualify for European football after Christmas against a team that are better than us and wouldn't look at all out of place in the CL.

Upon what basis are Red Bull Salzburg better than Celtic?

Let me see, hammering Zagbreb 5-1 away and 4-2 at home while Zagreb had us pinned back for most of the second half at CP as we scraped a 1-0 win!

Can you imagine us winning 5-1 away from home in Europe! Take the blinkers off!

So they're better than Celtic because they've beat other teams by more than we did?

    That is playground rules.

    Yes.

It's not really, its fairly straightforward logic. We have toiled through this group whereas they are hammering teams. Are you seriously saying we are capable of going to any half decent European side and winning 5-1?

In Soriano they will have by far the best forward on the pitch.
