Stats in football are fun but as is always the case with stats, the skill is actually interpreting them. I feel like that Juco James chap understands stats but can't interpret them properly, at least when it comes to football.

Anyone who watched that game and says rangers won the midfield battle is just kidding on.

Yeah stats are just that - numbers. They give you factual data but don't carry much weight if applied without any sort of wisdom. The Barkas vs Hart debacle for example.

One of the biggest blind spot people have when it comes to stats is that they place equal value on game events independent of timing or game context. This game is a good example. One team has more possession more chances and more control and go 3 0 up. In the last 30 minutes they make subs, drop deeper and the opposition team have a lot more possession and more chances. That team don't have control though because they are 3 0 down, but stats at the end of the game would imply a far more equal game that it actually was.

When people refer to the "eye test" it is game context that they are referring to.

    Lies, damned huns, and statistics.

Hope they keep the same eleven for the rest of the season if they're happy enough with how they dominated the midfield and should have drew 3-3, or whatever nonsense their manager hit out with.
