Hope Sky gets * with this new format if the ‘elite’ teams bring about the so called super league.
UEFA tells Sky you won’t be broadcasting any UEFA sanctioned games if you decide to broadcast Super League games.

I love the new format. For once they've made it "fair" for everyone. The big teams will still all make it past knockouts anyway but all the teams are given something to play for. I don't understand why anyone wouldn't like the new format more.

I like the format but if we got a draw like what some other clubs got I’m not sure we’d be as quick to call it “fair.”

We’ve played 3 of our harder games and done really well, but it’s undeniable that we got a really nice draw overall.

They under estimate the fact that people support teams rather than the general sport regardless where your team goes s the punter goes out and supports them …. For instance champions league if Celtic or fellow Scottish side ain’t in it I’ll not watch a full 90 casually watch the goals show and the final rest of the comp doesn’t get my full attention and it surely must be the same for the rest of the other supports

You know that possibly can happen la liga told sky where to stick it because the money they were giving epl hence the reason they chose to go to premier sports ….. didn’t touch tnt as they have some sort of business relationship with sky

Yeah you get additional bonus points for qualifying for the playoff or top 8 on a sliding scale @adequate citizen Zenon shared a good link on another thread which gives me the bonus points per competition based on where you come in the league phase. https://www.uefa.com/nationalassociations/uefarankings/country/about/

All CL league phase teams get 6 bonus points minimum. Then if you make the top 24 you get an additional 0.25 bonus points per place. If we finish 15th like we are the now we would get 8.5 coefficient points, so an extra 2.5 for our performance.

You also get bonus points for EL and ECL top 24 but you get no coefficient bonus if you are outside this in either competition. It’s the same 0.25 points in EL for 24th up to 6 for the top team and I think ECL is you get 0.125 bonus points for 24th but once you get to top 8 the jump per position is 0.25 per place, therefore the number 1 team gets 4 bonus points (very likely to be Chelsea).

If you get through to the last 16 and each subsequent round, it is worth 1.5 bonus points per round (this is the same over the 3 competitions).

So hypothetically in our optimistic scenario we win 3 of our last 4 games and get 8th spot in the table. We would get 2 points per win so 6. We would get 10.125 bonus points for coming 8th in the league. We would also get 1.5 bonus points for being in the last 16. If we go out at last 16 losing both ties it would be at least 22.625 for the season. Money wise you would be looking at over €64m before ticket sales.

In a middle scenario we win 2 of the 4 games so would get 4 points. We come 15th where we are is worth 8.5 bonus points and we would get a playoff tie which would be 2 extra games (so two chances to earn more points) but only get the 1.5 bonus points if we win the tie and advance to the last 16. So end the season between 17.5 - 23 points depending on if we go out at playoff losing both legs or make last 16 wining both legs. Money wise over €50m - €61m before ticket sales.

Pessimistic scenario we manage 1 win from our last 4 games, 2 points and it gets us to the 24th spot 6.25 bonus points, we get a playoff tie but don’t advance to last 16. Then we would only get 2.25 extra points and end the season on 13.25. Money wise over €44.5m before ticket sales.

All scenarios don’t suggest we get past last 16 losing both ties which of course again means more points could be won.

Much much much prefer the new system.

Playing 8 different teams is so much better.

No home/away games. Realistic chance of winning a few.

    So much better.

Absolutely no one I've spoken to dislikes the new format.

Best thing to have happened in the CL for ages.

Aye agree with the above, new format is far, far better than the old one.

I don't disagree we got a really decent draw this time round, but even with a more difficult draw you'd think we'd get around 3/4 winnable ties anyway.

I've never watched a (edit: full) CL match we weren't in for the last decade... They * me off so much by kowtowing to the rich clubs, at teams like ourselves expense. The new format has "given the game back" for me, in that now it's more varied and fluid.

Same teams will if course eventually bludgeon the smaller teams, with their budgets and squads, but at least it's not the same boring subsidized boys club it was previously from the outset. Can't speak for others but continually watching the same 5-7teams at the later stages, when you knew that from game 1, bored me rigid...

I would guess no. I wouldn’t think we could register them for the play-off round either if we make it.

Beat Aston Villa in their last game and haven't lost in the league for a while. Was a weird penalty they got but think they'll be hard to beat.
