It won't be easy so not getting carried away.

Let's remember our recent results in Europe. Beating Shakhtar home and away will still not be a walk in the park.

Leipzig we've beaten them at home before but rode our luck in that game. However they don't seem to travel well at all.

Real Madrid is a free swing.

It's about as good a group as we could hope for though. Shakhtar for me are the weakest pot 3.

We want Madrid 5th or 6th game when they have already qualified. They'll rest players and we'll take advantage.

Sheriff done it, plus they've lost some big players casemeiro.

Tchouameni and Camavinga probably I'd fear more given they'll add youth and pace to that midfield. Modric and Kroos still absolutely world class.

It's a free hit both games. I'm expecting nothing but hopefully avoid a proper skudding.

Allow me to clutch at straws :56:

If modric is wanting service in the world cup from josip, he's gonna be easy of us. If Madrid have qualified, I don't see their big stars playing a mid week game ahead of the world cup, why risk the injury

We should be beating Leipzig and Shaktar at home, the Madrid game will likely be a high scoring end to end game.

The away games are always gonna be the ones we’ll struggle in, hopefully add another defensive mid and we’ll be looking good. We have plenty pace to play counter, will certainly be entertaining to watch.

Real Madrid at home, last game of the group in November. Would be 10 years since the Barca game, get another full stadium tiffo for the 135 year anniversary.

Too much to ask for a wee 2-1 win as well?

I dunno about 'should be beating' anyone at this level tbh. Yes we beat Leipzig the other year but one look at their starting XI and it's not one we should be beating on paper.

I'm pessimistic by nature though. But we don't have the recent track record to be proclaiming about beating anyone for certain in the champions league.

We have a chance and I'm looking forward to it..let's just see.

I’m just basing it off their form last season which was poor and obviously Shaktar has played very little football.

If we are going to compete at this level those are the kind of games we need to get back to winning at home. Obviously I’m being optimistic but this draw is a great opportunity for 2nd or 3rd.

Would have taken Leipzig and Shakhtar all day long from pots 2 and 3. Expect to get a top side somewhere along the line, so I’m not bothered about getting Madrid. They are a team that grows into the tournament and do have a tendency to drop points in the group stages over the past few seasons, so you never know, we might get something in the home game. Happy with the draw though, because there was potentially a few disasters when our name come out.

while i admire the optimism its almost as if bodo glimt never happened .without any serious additions to last years squad assuming points from any of these games is unrealistic .sure we have a chance but we need at least 2 top players in before the window shuts

I know where you are coming from, but I think we are a better team now than then. Europe was a free hit last season for Ange. We threw together a team in a short space of time at the beginning of last season. We are far better prepared for a crack at Europe now.

We couldn’t have handpicked any weaker teams from pot 2 and 3.

Leipzig and Shakhtar by far the biggest outliers so you’ve got to think we should be fancying doing damage in this.

I agree but also we don't tend to go out and buy top, ready made Champions league level players. We never have.

We need another couple and as long as one of them is a first team ready midfielder with energy and some defensive nous I'm delighted.

I think your pessimism is justified, especially when you look at our record in Europe over the last 15+ years.

The draw is much better than I expected but I still wouldn't say I'm confident. It could have been a lot worse, yes, but I've seen us too many times crumble in Europe against much weaker opposition than Leipzig and Shakhtar.

Will it be different this time around? Let's see. To tell the truth I'd be delighted at finishing third. I just can't see us pumping * home and away without a proper DM.

i was six and believe it was my first European game. Biggest memory I have was of the crowds spilling out afterward from the Jungle and West End Terrace. Absolutely huge and terrifying, I can actually remember the crowd becoming a bottle neck and nowhere to move and holding my da’s hand because my life depended on it. Was in a few crowd situations like this down the years. Scottish Semi and Cup Final 88 and 89
