That's the thing, it makes even having European football after Christmas a very difficult prospect. Hopefully the third seed is a team we can take 4-6 points off, as I really think we need a crack at the Europa this year in order to progress further as a club.

A 3rd place finish in the group is what we should be targeting as a positive outcome for the CL, a top spot is * me how the * did that happen and a 2nd would be a very good result but probably worse for our chances of progressing rounds.

Come 3rd with no 5 odd goal hammerings and win a knockout tie when we drop into EL.

For the CL it all really comes down to the luck of the draw.

The pot groupings I'd argue is probably up there with some of toughest it's ever been in how teams are spread throughout.

Granted....from pot 1 we could get frankfurt....but we could easily end up with a joke of a group.

    2022/23 Champions League Pot 1
    Real Madrid
    Eintracht Frankfurt
    Manchester City
    AC Milan
    Bayern Munich
    Paris Saint-Germain
    Porto
    Ajax

    2022/23 Champions League Pot 2
    Liverpool
    Chelsea
    Barcelona
    Juventus
    Atletico Madrid
    Sevilla
    RB Leipzig
    Tottenham

    2022/23 Champions League Pot 3
    Borussia Dortmund
    Red Bull Salzburg
    Shakhtar Donetsk
    Inter
    Napoli
    Sporting CP
    Bayer Leverkusen

There is every chance we can something ridiculous like Madrid, Liverpool and Dortmund.

I doubt we would get anything close to a preferred group like...Frankfurt, Sevilla?, Sporting.

I am excited nonetheless despite my cynicism to see who we get....3rd should be realistic I'd hope.

Bayern Munich again please, English team, lets do them, and RB Salzburg, though the stadium is quite small and getting a ticket may be more problematic

Why would you want a group like that?:giggle1:

Genuinely proper baffles me why anyone wants teams like that. Bayern and one of City/Liverpool/Chelsea/Spurs. We’d be lucky to get a single point from 4 matches there.

Give us the “easiest” possible group please.

Like...we are absolutely going to get a top top team from pot 1...no chance we get given Frankfurt.

But otherwise...yeah it is a nice experience and vibe when playing the big boys but for once....I'd like to get the best possible chance with the group and feel like 2nd is a realistic achievement.

Right now...given our history...I'd say 3rd should be realistic but even then, that's more wishful thinking then anything.

I think the majority of us share the same worries regarding the defensive side of the game in Europe.

Think we’ll score goals no bother, but will still concede far too many goals unless we strengthen at DM and CB before the groups start.

    Porto/Frank/Ajax
    Sevilla/Leipzig
    Shakhtar/Sporting/Salzburg

    Pls.

Very much in the “easiest group possible” mindset.

The big teams will humiliate us.

If we can't have the easiest group possible and it ends up being big teams that would pump us I'd prefer it to be ones we haven't played against as much like Liverpool/Chelsea/Real Madrid. If we're gonna get pumped, I don't want it to be off the likes of Barca and PSG again but easiest is always the priority for me.
Always think there's time enough for the glamour ties when we get further down the line then we get a winnable non glamour tie and get pumped anyway like Copenhagen etc.

i dont understand how liverpool and chelsea are pot 2 and frankfurt porto and ajax are pot 1, pot 2 looks way more stronger

surely pot 1 should be real madrid liverpool man city bayern munich psg barcelona althletico madrid juventus something like that ?

anyways near on impossible to qualify 3rd place is gonna be a tough ask, definitely nead a center back and a top quality defensive mid

whose our 1st place full backs bernabie and juranovic, i know no teams play 3 center backs but you just feel we need that especially for some of the away ties

Frankfurt make sense in that they were Europa league winners.

The others I can't say for sure why...I imagine it's maybe something mostly down to winning their leagues whereas Liverpool, albeit Finalists, didn't win either the CL or EPL.

Winners of Champions league and Europa league are pot 1 then the champions of the top 6 leagues (could be 7 or 8 if CL and or Europa winners won their league).

What I think would an entirely entertaining group for everyone as well as one...under Ange we could hope to navigate out of:

    Ajax
    RB Leipzig
    Sporting CP
    Celtic

The type of group we are bound to get

    Real Madrid
    Liverpool
    Inter
    Celtic

    Or

    Manchester City
    Atletico Madrid
    Dortmund
    Celtic

    Or

    PSG
    Barca
    Napoli
    Celtic.

It's different this year as its condensed cause of the world cup but impossible to know especially with the huns potentially qualifying
