SCOTLAND’S Euro entrants won’t need to self-isolate after away trips to countries on the Covid-19 banned list.

Celtic supremo Peter Lawwell revealed the four clubs have been granted special status by Holyrood.

And they could land one-off home ties — even if they are drawn away — if host clubs can’t meet strict Uefa coronavirus criteria.

Celtic await next month’s Champions League qualifying draw, with Rangers, Motherwell and Aberdeen set for the Europa League.

They could all face trips to nations not on Scotland’s “air bridge” list — which would mean heading into quarantine on their return.

But First Minister Nicola Sturgeon granted the teams special status to avoid self-isolation if they are up to date on Covid-19 testing and charter their own plane.

Celtic chief executive Lawwell revealed: “It was agreed that there would be an elite athlete exemption.

“It means we can travel for the qualifiers, subject to their control measures.

It’s also been agreed that teams coming here from those countries shouldn’t have to quarantine on their return.

“It would have been a crazy situation otherwise, but we’re now in decent shape for the draw.

“Other nations might not have that comfort as they don’t have the right protocols or controls.

For example, if we had to go back to Gibraltar their ground would need to pass a few tests and it’s quite a small stadium.

“If it didn’t pass muster then our opponents would need to play the game here instead.

“It wouldn’t take place at a neutral venue.

“The same will apply to Aberdeen and Motherwell in their first-round draws, but Pittodrie and Fir Park will be fine.”

Rangers have a bye in the first qualifying round before entering with a one-off tie in the second round in September.

Stadiums will be a maximum of 33 per cent full and could be at as low as 17 per cent of capacity when fans return in October under social-distancing rules, according to guidelines issued by safety chiefs.

St Mirren Chief Executive Tony Fitzpatrick said: "We have complied robustly with the official testing and hygiene regimen to the letter, using a private testing facility in accordance with the Scottish Government and the SPFL/SFA Joint Response Group protocols.

"Our players were tested on Monday 20th and have returned 100% negative tests on Wednesday 22nd July, however test results for seven of the coaching staff undertaken at the same time showed they were positive for Covid-19.

"We immediately implemented strict isolation protocols and made further arrangements for the coaching staff to be retested at NHS testing facilities on Thursday 23rd.

"I’m very pleased to report that six of the subsequent coaching staff tests have now come back negative this morning (Friday 24th).

"The remaining member of the coaching staff has confirmed as a positive test result and continues to be in strict isolation and has not come into contact with any member of the playing or coaching staff since Saturday 18th July. The club will continue to support and look after this staff member to ensure a full recovery.

"We are liaising closely with NHS Scotland, the SPFL and the SFA on next steps. We will also be undertaking an urgent review of the private testing arrangement which returned the initial false positive test results.

"In light of recent events the club’s planned friendly match at home to St Johnstone, scheduled to take place on Saturday 25th July, has been cancelled.

"Our priority throughout the pandemic has always been the safety and wellbeing of our staff and players, and to ensure we placed public safety at the forefront of our thoughts and actions. This will continue to be the clubs top priority as a safe start to the football season is essential."

CELTIC Football Club welcomes today’s announcement by the Scottish Government that supporters are set to be allowed back into football stadia from September 14.

The guidance published today indicates that sports stadia can re-open from September 14, with a limited number of fans allowed in, and following public health measures. There is also the possibility of test events before then.

Responding to today’s announcement, Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “Celtic are delighted with this positive development and are very appreciative that the Government has taken this important step. We would like to thank the Scottish Government, the SFA/SPFL Joint Response Group and everyone at the Club who have collaborated and worked so hard over these past few difficult months.

"It is our intention to get as many supporters as we can back into Celtic Park as soon as we can, within the guidance. However, the safety and security of our supporters is always our top priority, and we will communicate more on this as soon as possible.”

TODAY we have revealed a raft of new safety measures that have been introduced at the club in order to keep players, staff and matchday workers protected as much as possible from coronavirus contamination.

While the government set a much-welcomed proposed date of September 14, 2020 for the fans return, for now, all supporters are being reminded NOT to attend Celtic Park on matchdays as the games are being played behind closed doors.

Staff at the club have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the players, coaching staff and matchday staff protected and in today’s video, fronted by Celtic TV’s Gerry McCulloch, it explains how Celtic Park and the stadium’s footprint has been segregated into Red, Amber and Green zones.

The players and backroom staff will be directed into the Red zone when they arrive on the team coach. From there, only essential workers will be allowed in that zone with no-one permitted to leave it until the players exit after the match.

All others attending the match (club officials and staff) will have their own individual entrance which will take them to their required areas.

EVERYONE entering the stadium will be temperature checked, and those working in the Amber and Red zones will be required to wear a protective face mask at all times.

The safety measures continue inside the dressing rooms, with the players lockers being clearly marked with signs telling them which ones they can and cannot use in order to comply with social distancing measures.

The dugout, too, has a maximum occupancy of four, so an overspill area is set aside in the main stand for backroom staff and substitute players to sit (socially distanced, of course).

In terms of sanitization, there are hand sanitizing stations placed at numerous points throughout the stadium, alongside clear signage informing people of the key measures they need to adhere to for their own safety and the safety and protection of those around them.

Even the corner flags and goalposts get sanitized pre-match, at half-time and at full-time. The match balls, too, are cleaned by groundstaff and placed ready for action every time they go out of play.

Interviews with manager Neil Lennon and his players will still take place, however, with extra security added. They will now be conducted outdoors, with a minimum 2m distance separating the interviewer from the interviewee across the boundary of the Amber and Red Zones.

We are looking forward to welcoming you back to the stadium as soon as we can. Until then, please do not attend the stadium on matchdays but be safe in the knowledge that the club is doing everything in its power to keep our players, coaches and staff safe while you enjoy the kick-off to the new season from the safety of your own home.

We'd need to know more about the base rates in Scotland among asymptomatic young people to estimate the likelihood that it isn't a false positive.

That's bad news for the season already.

Does that mean that The Rangers need to go into quarantine then and miss tonight's game?
