See even though we’ve spent a pre-season slating the league they’re playing in as not good enough, we don’t seem to dominate it like it’s a level below our young team.

It’s not as bad as league as some people make out and say I have experienced this first hand and has a lot of lower league pros in the league. Which will help our colts players out

The B team are now four games into the Lowland League season with the fifth match at home to East Kilbride looming on the horizon this Friday night.

A 3-1 home win over Cowdenbeath kicked-off the campaign for the youngsters and their three games since then have seen the Celts on the road over on the East Coast.

A tight 1-0 defeat just over the border in Berwick was followed by a 2-2 draw in Edinburgh against Spartans, and the young Hoops returned to the capital last night (Tuesday) to take on Civil Service Strollers.

A sterling performance delivered their first away win, with a 2-0 victory seeing all three points returning along the M8 to Celtic Park.

After the game, Stephen McManus told Celtic TV: “I felt we performed really well, I’m delighted for the boys in the way they attacked the game – that’s how they’ve been performing in training every single day.

‘Every week that’s went by so far, they’ve added an extra layer to their performance.’

“When you get the win, certainly away from home at a difficult place, it gives them that wee bit of belief.

“We think the world of them as coaching staff and it’s great to see them getting the rewards for the effort they’re putting in.”

The first half saw plenty of openings, but it wasn’t until after the break that the Strollers finally succumbed to the pressure and goals from Corey Thomson and Rocco Vata gave the Celts the win their play certainly deserved.

McManus added: “They got into some really good areas, I thought we got into the final third really, really well throughout the game, our build-up was very good and our positional play was very good with the midfield three as well.

“The full-backs came in at the right times, they popped out at the right times, but I felt in the first half when we got into the final third, the final pass, the final ball, their decision making in the final third was just a wee bit erratic at times.

“We spoke to them about that at half time and you can see the quality that we’ve got in the forward areas – we’ve got quality throughout the team.

“It’s just giving them that little but of belief to go and express themselves and play with no fear in the final third.”
