    Naismith on his way

BBC Scotland understands that Celtic are close to agreeing a fee with Kilmarnock for striker Steven Naismith.

The Rugby Park club previously said that it would take around £2 million to secure the 21-year-old's signature.
However, Celtic are thought to want assurances that Naismith wants a move to Celtic Park before a fee is agreed. Kilmarnock have turned down three bids from Rangers for Naismith, and Walter Smith has said he has withdrawn his interest in pursuing the player. ** do we need another striker warning up the bench?**<!-- E SF -->

Mcgeady is playing good and riordan can play ion left back aswell strachan is filling up players in the same position, we don't need naismith he would be a good adition for the future. Does Strachan have something against Riordan becuase if naismith is coming it shows that Riordan has to be going out ?

We also have to many strikers so surely zurawski and if naismith comes miller must be going.

    Why because he is Scottish?

José Antonio Reyes went for only a million more....

Would you not pay 2 million for a 20 year old who can score 20 + goals for kille ?

and erm Reyas moved for undisclosed but is more than 3 million lol

I'd rather spend the money on a centre half. If he was an automatic choice then fair enough, but I can see a Riordan scenario all over again if we sign him.

José Antonio Reyes is 3 years older and only cost a million more. Plus has played at Arsenal and Real Madrid.

He is way overpriced. Im not saying I want Reyes. But ffs if a million more gets you that. :31:

I like the guy myself but i'm really begining to doubt we have the ability to compete effectively this season in the champions league.

The players we have brought in will all do well in the SPL and i do feel we will be truimphant in the league again. Surely though to have an realistic chance in ECL we should really have aimed alot higher in the transfer market.

If he does join us he will be made to feel welcome by the supporters. It would be a helluva day on Sunday if we sign him and he scores against Killie!!!

Let me list why this is a bad signing for us:

    (i) We have Derek Riordan-a player who is BETTER than him-and he can't buy a game!

(ii) He is DESPERATE for a move to Rangers-not to us. Hence, we are his fall-back option!

(iii) Ok, is a good player but won't fit into our team and will do hee-haw for us in Europe.

(iv) The £2M could be used for other transfer targets that we need.

He moved for undisclosed only the clubs know how much and what about wages Reyas will demand like £80,000

and Daly bhoy how would he do nothing for us in europe ? but Riordan is a better player.

Thats not the point. The whole point Im making is to compete at European level we cant blow all our money on Scottish talent. 2 million is overpriced. We dont need more squad players at striker. And winger we have Riordan and McGeady ahead of him.

id like to wait and see how the deal pans out first... it might be as reported the other day that we are offering cash plus player, im not sure what it is with riordan but its obvious strachan has something against him but personally id rather have jarosik , gravesen , zurawski, to name a few , shown the door before him and if naismith comes in then no matter who he say's he supports as long as he does the business i dont give a monkey's

I think he doesn't want to sign him he just wants to show the comparison between the british and european mainland transfer market. You get decent (nationalplayers!) european players for £3-5 mio nowadays when in britain everyone who ever kicked a ball costs at least £1 mio.

I agree with Iontach £2 mio is a bit over the top for a player like him and I'm not sure if that's the right direction if we want to improve in the champions league. On the other hand it's a sign some current players are on their way out.

I think he is probably worth the money BUT can embdy explain how the strikers at the club are gonna remain satisfied if they are not getting enough games to qualify for medals? Wonder will he wear a blue undershirt if he does move?

I don't get it. He isn't better than Deeks or McGeady, and we have already signed McDonald and Killen as strikers.

No problem with Naismith I can't just see why to spend two millions NOW.

I feel we only sign him because we can, and nobody else have the money. I'm getting sick of only signing from the SPL. Its like the Old Firm compete of all scottish targets and all scouting its waste of time.

We should do better than this. We are a larger club than this.

Ok, so tell me how you think he could improve our current team? I just don't think that he is the calibre of player that we need in order to progress in the CL.
