Not if the player has played in multiple positions during his career. I'd ask the question too, to see if the player has a preference.

Mark McGhee anyone? He would keep the fans in line. Oh oh oh btw we could get Kenny Shiels for cheap and loves watching games from the roof of the dugout.

Bollocks Norwich are a yoyo club. Had them 11th first season. Parted company with them when they were still above the relegation zone

Always looking for negatives. Could also say he brought Brighton to the premier league that year for the first time ever. He also won the championship with Newcastle when they were an absolute mess behind the scenes. I suppose he's no Rafa or Jose though...

Wasn't Strachan's quality either, think he done alright mate

Agreed - the reaction throughout football to his sacking at Newcastle (to be replaced by Pardew) was anger at Ashley. He did a good job at Birmingham and an OK job at Norwich and IMO an outstanding job at Brighton.

He wouldn't be first on my list but I would be OK if he got it - IMO definitely an improvement on NL.

Have any of Houghton's sides ever played attacking football ?
My biggest concern with him would be his transfer record, it's been dodgy nearly everywhere he's been.

I think Hughton’s a good shout, and has been fairly solid wherever he’s been, but of course he’s not a ‘big’ name like Rafa, despite being just as successful as him in recent times which is why I don’t get the Rafa wankfest.

Bar that crazy night in Istanbul and winning the FA Cup a year later with Liverpool nearly 15 years ago, the best Rafa has achieved since is getting Newcastle back to the Premier League with a side that shouldn’t have really gone down, a side Rafa himself could not save from relegation.

Hughton’s also done the same with Newcastle and more recently with Brighton, so to be honest would be just as good an appointment and has as much chance of being a success here.

Brighton played 18 league games in 2019, he won 2 of them. Hence his sacking.

If that’s outstanding we need to reevaluate what ‘outstanding’ is.

Brighton wanting Potter, another manager we’ve been linked with, to replace Hughton.

Why would we have Lennon out in France scouting players if he wasn't going to be involved next season? If we had someone else lined up then the smart move would be to keep transfer activity on hold until he had his feet under the desk and had time to assess the squad. At the very least I would expect any targets we identified to be assessed by a member of the scouting team not the stand in manager who has a month left on his time here! These kind of actions make me think it has to be Lennon but the flip side to that would be if it is to be him why the delay in announcing him!? Either way it raises alot of questions about how we are handling this.

Rafa's title wins as a manager.

    Valencia

    Liverpool

    Inter Milan

    Chelsea

    Napoli

    Newcastle United

So Real Madrid aside who seem to always go through a few years of big success and then what their mad fans would call a crisis, he's won something at practically every club he's managed.

Rafa is by far, the single biggest name we could bring in who's had a level of success at every team barring Madrid.

But let's be honest, he ain't coming here anyway and someone like Hughton would be far more likely but he has got some way to go before he's as successful as guys like Rafa been in football management.

Right that's it, where's Chris Coleman in the betting.

He'll be the new favourite within 24 hours.

To be honest I'm not exactly thrilled at the prospect of Benitez.

Someone in here called Mourinho a dinosaur a couple of weeks back - I'd be putting Benitez in the same bracket.

    Box office manager
At least 1 unit of a CB preferably 2.
Left back (good enough to compete with Tierney)
    Right back (1st team ready)
    Enforcer in Broonys role
Creative midfielder who can score goals
2 strikers, Poacher and a target man bully.

£25-30m spent which isn’t that much considering what we have sitting in the bank. Also Rodgers fee and the outgoing players will probably cover the majority of that if folk like Rogic,Ntcham, sinclair (is his extension triggered?) are off which i think they will be, those 3 alone will be around £15-17m in the kitty. Add to that the fringe players and it’s a sizeable chunk that could easily be invested without breaking the bank.
