He'll plod along and give a few decent performances followed by a few shockers. Wow!!

Welsh cost us next to nothing and will never be as bad as this clown. If we are happy with mediocrity then let's stick with the academy. At least we might get a pay off once in a while.

Not one for binning guys but Starfelt is extremely average. Could have saved ourselves millions by sticking with Welsh and Dane Murray. There is no difference.

Aye, but he was "good" against the mighty Raith.
Passes the ball as if its a hot potato, Welsh much better on the ball.

People still peddling the myth that Welsh is much better.

Neither of them look good enough but I’d say Welsh has cost us more goals this season than Starfelt has.

Both are bang average on the ball.

I feel this is unfair on Welsh mate. One thing about him is he's a good passer of the ball - at least compared to Starfelt.

He's made a few errors but he is only 21. Maybe not good enough at the moment but deserves the opportunity to develop when we are in a more stable position.

Starfelt is in his prime and looks pretty shoddy overall.

Welsh is average on the ball. Him and Starfelt just keep it simple and rarely pass forward.

He may yet improve, Welsh, but he shouldn’t be starting for us right now. Go with CCV and Starfelt until Jullien is back.

Infuriating how frustrating this is. To have payers competing a starting spot is normally good, but in this case, we have two absolute clowns that given their chance just majorly * up instead of impressing. So lets wait for This bombscare to score a og och cause a penalty, just to see Welsh do the exact same thing.

More an opinion than a myth really. To me Welsh looks ten times more composed on the ball, doesn't panic, passes better, can be a goal threat and is stronger in the challenge. Sometimes he goes in a little too strong, and even recklessly, but hopefully as he develops he'll get better at that. He's just 21.

I think he was probably the only positive from last season in all honesty.

Hoping Starfelt can settle a bit more, have seen glimpses of a decent defender, but at the moment Welsh should be starting ahead of him for me.

Their passing stats are almost identical, in terms of success rate.

Starfelt might look a bit more awkward on the ball but that has little bearing on his actual passing ability. Like I said, I don't think either of them are great on the ball. Both are average and don't tend to pass forward.

I think Starfelt had a shocking start when he joined but the last few games he's been fine. We need better, no doubt about it, but I think him and CCV are our best best right now.

If they're near enough identical, the young home grown player should be getting the nod.

Why? That's just passing we're talking about.

I like Welsh. He's a decent player. But by * he's overhyped by some people. Gets away with a lot because he's an academy player. This season he's made plenty of mistakes that Starfelt would be crucified for had he made them.

Agreed although I think Welsh has more of a future here than Starfelt does long term. I'm not saying Welsh is the answer to our defensive issues. He'd definitely be a good cover option though. Ideally, if we were to have Juillien, CCV, Welsh and another center back, we'd be in a better position. Next window, I'd definitely be targeting another loan to buy in that area.

I think there's not much between Welsh and Starfelt in general, tbh. However, Welsh does get the nod because he's young and expected to make these mistakes. Similar ability but one is cheaper than the other and is home grown and 5 years younger. Welsh should be ahead of Starfelt for a starting place.

The real issue is scouting and tactics. If we had signed a better defender than Starfelt or/and we had some sort of defensive tactic(s), we may not have been having this discussion.

So we spend millions on an international defender, only to find out that he is no better than a 21 year old home grown player, who is still learning his trade?
Just dont see many attributes in the guy, he has had settling in period, should be also doing more from set pieces, 3 goals in 40 odd matches for former club not great return, still to get off the mark here-although a lot to do with lack of quality of our deliveries.
Think he maybe needs to score a goal or put in a goal saving tackle just to kick him on.

His agent probably contacted us and put the deal together. Probably someone we have worked with before.

We don’t really scout players in the way you would expect, at least not often.

Best performance so far in a Celtic tap.
