I was going to say that is very unlikely as he's played in Russia and they have mental fans and a fair few stadia around the 45k mark and Zenit nearer 70k, but then thinking about it he went there when covid was kicking off so anywhere near full stadia were probably non existant.

So maybe there could be something to that, and the expectation of having to win every game is getting to him a bit just now. I guess we'll find out when see how he settles in due course.

He wasn’t too bad last night at times, in the air and making a couple interceptions.

But when a man is running at him, he’s a train wreck. That lunging in needs to be coached out him and it shouldn’t be hard, just tell him not to * do it. He just runs past the ball, it’s almost a sign of trying to hard.

Doubt it. We have seen youth come through and it'ds not been a factor.

Needs a good performance to build some confidence. Even a goal from a corner will give him a boost, against the huns on the 29th would be nice.

Hopefully that’s all it is but at the moment he is a car crash waiting to happen in big games.

Plenty of players have had a shakey start to get into form and kick on. He needs to kick on though as at current levels he is making way to many rash mistakes

Jury is still out for me. I hope he settles and comes onto a game.

Mental as it sounds right now, i honestly believe the guy will settle and be a good player for us, he hasn't just became a bad player in the last few weeks, nerves could be playing a part but he really needs to concentrate on doing the basics right and keeping it simple.

Hope your right and he does settle down but right now he is not at the level needed particularly with his 1v1 defending. Early days for sure and whatever about crowds he has moved from Russia to Glasgow so may need some time to settle in off the field as well as on it.

The youth live Celtic everyday, not coming from Sweden with small crowds and off the back of crowd restricted season (COVID).

Watching and playing are two different things though. He's 26, he shouldn't have nerves playing infront of bigger crowds even if he's not used to it.

You live for big crowds if you're a professional footballer. If he honestly can't handle the pressure of it maybe he should go play for Cowdenbeath.

I know this is rash, and its not my usual but i just get a bad feeling that he isnt up to scratch.

Hes 26, very little caps for sweden, seen swedes mention he was average in the allsvenskan, i just get a bad feeling.

It sure is a strange feeling. Not unusual as we have so many average players that you normally don’t remember the name of. But his surname is very unusual for being a swede so that should get stuck in ur mind if he would be semi decent.

See being fair if Julien is exposed in 1v1 situations Starfelt has been, I am not convinced he would fair that much better. Julien is a good defender in the air and decent on the deck but he isn’t the quickest across the ground either.

However I did feel after a shaky start last night Starfelt did defend well when we were under the cosh at the start of the 2nd half, I recall two or three interceptions at the near and far lost to cut out dangerous situations. It’s the lack of pace when a quick player runs at him leads to him making rash decisions and diving in and getting done.

The main point to take away from my comment is that Welsh is now our first choice centre back. Its now a question on who partners him Julien or Starfelt
