I'd certainly take Starfelt, Davies with Jullien and Welsh, that young boy looked solid to Leo (forgive me not sure how his surname is spelt.) We need a LB and a RB also along with a striker or 2. Some rebuild needed ffs

£12.4m? If he's on £20k a week, he's on just over £1m a year so it's worth nowhere near that.

Am i reading that wrong, you said the 60k deal is nonsence and is on around 20k, and liverpool paid peanuts for him.

Yet your last bit said he quadrupled his wages for a 4 year deal worth atleast 12.4m.
So saying there hes on over 60k a week.

He’s worked that out on the £60k wage that he said was nonsense.

Aye, either way, if he is on £20k a week, we aren't going to match that. Not a chance. He would have to take a paycut of some sort and as someone said above, it depends on his mentality. Does he want to continue making £20k a week while playing with the reserves or does he want to make £5-£8k less a week but play, win trophies and be part of something. Totally up to him.

    We could easily match that.

I'm not saying we couldn't match it. I'm saying we won't match it. They won't put Ben Davies in the top earners at the club. This is a guy who hasn't kicked a ball in 7 months and was playing for a mediocre championship team last year. Can't see us paying £20k a week for him and a fee.

Depends on how highly we rate him. If a fee hasn’t put us off, I can easily see us doing it.

More likely a loan with an option to buy though.

A loan with an option to buy would make a good deal of sense for me. Could pay his wages for a year and have a fee agreed and then decide after the season has played out whether or not he is worth the wages/transfer fee.

I want to make it clear I actually rate him. He's a good centre back. I was just making a case from how I see the board playing it.

I think he would need to take some sort of wage cut but he could determine it will make him more money in the long run. If he cuts about 25% of his wage now he might reckon we will sell him on in a few years and he’ll hit that mega wage later, rather than doing nothing at Liverpool for a few years then heading down to the championship to retire.

Either way, I don’t want any loans. We should be identifying players we believe in and making the deal happen. It’s about making statements to the player, the squad, the manager and the supporters.

Loans, yes. Loans with options to buy? I'm a big fan of them. Massive difference in my opinion.

It depends on the circumstances but at this moment in time it’s a bad idea. If he comes up here and has an amazing season then the option to buy won’t matter, we’ll be competing for his signature like everyone else.

It's reported "a posse" of English clubs are chasing him too so I'd imagine he won't have to take any wage cut to secure a deal immediately with them..

Then you make him want to stay. The difference with the loan to buy is we would buy him for significantly less than anyone else trying to buy him. If our deal is 100% of his wages plus a £2m fee, he comes up the road and performs brilliantly, he's worth far more than the £2m option and that's where clubs would need to pay far more money to liverpool. It's the same thing that's happened with Jack Hendry.

My bad on that one (head in hands). I do doubt he is on £60k a week though given he was only on £5.5k a week at Preston and Liverpool coming in for him would have been a dream. The source for £60k says Roberston’s on £50k which makes me think that isn’t accurate.

I mean, that's not strictly true. Liverpool can accept whatever they want.

If we have a buy option at £2m and Leicester City offer £2.1m or say £3m if you prefer, and triple the wage offer, he'll go to Leicester.

Whereas if we rate him just pay £2m, £3m, £4m or whatever just now, commit to him and get him on a 4 year deal then that's surely better.

The only advantage of a loan-to-buy is it trades risk that the player is * against risk you don't keep the player. We shouldn't pretend it's a win-win, because it isn't.

Personally I'm fed up with Celtic * about with loan deals because we have * recruitment. We need to start making decisions on players and getting them into the club and getting them committed to the club.
