I've had a few octavias over the years as I drive a taxi, but only been 1.6 diesels which are great for the job, but I'd love to get my hands on one for a day

Funny this thread should pop up as I'm actually looking at a new car. Was looking at either a Subaru Impreza, a Honda Civic, or a Mercedes A or B class. Anyone got any experience with the above? I'm leaning towards a Civic at the moment as I like the way they look inside and out.

Engine are you looking at on each one ?

We had a petrol civic and done 100k odd miles with no issues but my dad had a diesel accord for his taxi and said it was terrible, not sure if that's common.

Sure some Merc's, the 1.5 I think, use Renault engines so would avoid them. Not sure if it's just that engine.

I would be right in about an Impreza if poor mpg wasn't an issue for you. If it's an sti you're looking at that is.

I've got to admit the appeal of an Impreza is mainly due to the legendary rally car, but I still like the look and what I read about it. :giggle1:

I'll be going for a petrol and at least a 1.6 engine. I do between 10k-15k a year, depending on how often I go up the road. My mate has warned me off Mercs, but they look so good. :giggle1:

My civic done over 200k without a hiccup. Well until some * smashed into me on a main road. Cow. So now my username is out of date :56: ended up with a Vauxhall.

My experience with Honda is to always recommend one. So when yours explodes after a week, I'm changing my name :56:

I done a wee table kind of thing when looking for our new car. Then she went and got pregnant and we ended up choosing between an Astra and Leon for boot size.

Mpg, acceleration, tax, insurance group, mileage, age, boot size, extras etc.

Makes it easier to decide if you have a few in mind. But at the end of the day test driving is the best way to decide. Fun factor and internal quality can't be decided without going to see each car and driving them all.

Would also check parts prices, pretty sure Mercs will be expensive and think Imprezas might be the same.

Yeah fair points. I'll arrange a couple of test drives. Might try another couple I haven't considered too.

I've not got time to watch 15 minutes of video, but the green car looks horrid.

They won't be the fastest M135i/M140i if the claimed power levels are right.

The M135i and M140i are good cars. They do need money spent on them as they really need the suspension sorted and a LSD.

It's no match for a proper M car if that's what the next video is going to get at.

The M135i v RS3 is a very old video. Both cars have been updated twice since then.

Why has your mate warned you off Mercs ? I've had a few Mercs (C class coupe Kompressor old shape is, imo, still one of the best looking cars on the road) and they have been sound, also had the Jeep/suv one, not the wagon thing :giggle1:, which was good although not cheap to run. Don't have a Merc just now but will/would definitely consider another one. I'm not mechanical so the only downside to Mercs, imo, are they are rear wheel drive usually although folk say that actually makes you a better driver :39: They do take a bit of getting used to in the snow.
