I know why you are saying it but also seen Kyogo miss some absolute sitters from yards out. He seems to excel at putting the difficult ones away. I'd assume Giakoumakis can take a penalty if he's on the park. Juranovic's pen was decent too.

I have always been raging that penalty takers refuse to shoot down the middle. And then Modrić did it vs. Cyprus, and...it was saved. Still, it woukln't hurt to have that option in the locker. Has Rogić ever taken penalties for us?

Actually wasn't a terrible penalty either. Decent save from the keeper, it happens. That aside he was class again hardly lost the ball all night.

Ran the show again, always available, still charging about right at the death.
I seem to recall Griff, Christie, Eddy all missing spot kicks over the last few seasons, thats a concern.

Celtic skipper, Callum McGregor was his usual calming influence in the engine room of the Hoops midfield in what could have been a very testing and fraught afternoon of football in the East End of Glasgow yesterday.

That the game wasn’t as trying or as troublesome it could have been considering the circumstances of both Celtic and Ferencvaros determined to claim their first UEFA Europa League points of the Group G campaign, was down to a team bond that emanates from that midfield, back to the defence and forward to the strikers.

McGregor said following Celtic’s 2-0 win over the Hungarian champions: “It’s good to get that first win in the group.

“It was an excellent performance and I thought we dominated throughout the game. We had loads of chances, so it was a great night for us.

“The manager keeps saying we are a new bunch of players but we have a real bond in the dressing room.

‘I have spoken about it before, if you get success then it brings everyone closer together.’

“It’s brilliant for the supporters as well, they turned out in their numbers for a difficult time. We have to thank them for their effort.”

On an atypical European afternoon, it was a match of a typical European rollercoaster of emotion and palpitation with the art and craft of the move for the opener and the joy it delivered counterbalanced by the visiting keeper getting his hands to McGregor’s own penalty soon after and the cry of dejection around the stadium that produced – although, admittedly, that didn’t last for long.

The captain said: “I think the boys recognise how good the pass was from Jota to Kyogo and then he does what he does by putting it away.

“It’s one of those things, everyone misses penalties at some point in their career. I just need to try and put it behind me and try to score the next one.”

The non-conversion mattered little at the end of the afternoon thanks to the two goals and the fact that the defence shut the door at the back.

McGregor added: “It’s great to get another clean sheet. We have spoken about it and we want to have more control of games.

“In the moments when we had to defend I think we did it excellently. Young Tony Ralston made a brilliant block at a vital time of the game.

“It is a step in the right direction but we have to keep working hard.”

Nah, it was poor: height of it was an absolute gift for any keeper.

He’d a great game otherwise, but let’s not pretend that was anything other than a duff penalty. It happens though, like you say.

Doesn’t necessarily mean he shouldn’t take them anymore full stop, but I’d like to see someone else take the next one.

I thought he was outstanding yesterday for us.

Players miss penalties but I had a feeling he was going to miss before he kicked it. I'd get Jota on penalty duties from now on.

The keeper goes the opposite way and it rips the net, everyone will say it's a crackin pen. That's just how pens are viewed. Eddy clips one down the middle and it's amazing but if the keeper stands tall and collects it, its a shocker. I back McGregor to take them, everyone, even the best will miss.

The way he receives the ball on his back foot and opens his body up to play it forward is brilliant to watch. Probably the best at doing it that I’ve watched play for Celtic tbh.

Makes it look so easy and it’s anything but.

Their not viewed like that by me.Imo a proper peno is low and hard in the bottom corner or blast it in the top corner if hit rite the keeper has little chance of saving it.

You hit it a foot or two in height and dont put it near the corner its bread and butter for a keeper if the guess the rite direction.

Of course there an element of luck no matter what ye do ,i understand hitting down the middle (your guessing the keeper goes left or rite)so theres a reason for tying it.But theres no reason to hit it the correct height and position for the keeper to save it.

Not actually having a go at Mc Gregor,as ye said even the best will miss but imo it was a bad peno, for what its worth i always feel strikers should take the penos but thats just me own opinion.

    We've missed a * tonne tbh.

Well, comparitivley speaking. But our conversion rate is * awful. Has been for a few years.

I remember a time when our squad always had at least 2 free kick "specialists" and strikers ALWAYS hit the pen... And scored.

Firstly thought he was outstanding yesterday,
I was quite surprised he stepped forward for the penalty, I thought Turnbull might have hit it as one of the better strikers of a ball in the team and he is someone who has that bit of arrogance that good penalty takers do. I also think he took them at Motherwell.

It is something we need to sort out as we miss too many of them.
