I know it's the 'in thing' to dissect and scrutinise every little word and movement of a manager, but how about listening to what he actually said, and acknowledging that he knows what he's talking about?

Instead of twisting his words to fit them in to whatever the agenda du jour is...the current one being that the club don't want to sign good players and Brendan is sending them cryptic messages via the medium of the Scottish footballing press.

    It's * pathetic.

How can you say rodgers is not elite …. Look at what happened last season given two * windows and he managed to coach the team into getting results look at the pre season he just had …. He’s vindicated the boards decision to choose him over maresca

Brendan Rodgers will hit his players with a list of targets for the new campaign - starting with a domestic treble and a place in the play-off rounds of the new look Champions League.

The Celtic boss intends to address his squad at Lennoxtown on the eve of their league opener against Kilmarnock tomorrow to spell out his demands and expectations for the season ahead. And Rodgers made it clear that he plans to back up a league title and Scottish Cup from his first season back in charge with a clean sweep in his second. He said: “That’s something that we’ll speak about before Sunday’s game. That’s part of my presentation tomorrow.

But I think here at Celtic a lot of it is self-explanatory really. You know you get three trophies domestically. So to win them is the target. In the Champions League, we want to qualify for the playoffs by the end of January. And then there’ll be other little targets that we’ll speak with players individually on in terms of their own personal targets and where they can get to and how they can improve

And Rodgers is adamant that he will not allow complacency to derail his plans for the club while he waits for his superiors to deliver on his wish list in the summer transfer market. He said: ”Complacency is not within our psyche, certainly not within a manager’s psyche and a player’s psyche.

It’s natural that others can think that you could just keep on winning but absolutely no chance. We’re measured on our own standard and our standards are domestically really strong.

That’s the bread and butter. So you have to continue with that and you can’t not just think that it won’t change. We saw that a few years ago when Rangers actually won the league and Celtic were maybe not in the best position

People might have thought then that Rangers would have moved away and that was them, they’d won the league. But it quickly changed again. Certainly complacency doesn’t ever enter my mind because we didn’t win three trophies last year, we won two, we lost out on one.

So domestically, we’ve got to make up on that and then we have to be better in Europe. It’s as simple as that. We can’t beat about the bush. We have to be better.

“But in order to be better, you need quality. And if you’re going to improve on that, then we need to find that. It’s as absolutely simple as that. That’s our drive, that’s our motivation. The ambition is absolutely burning for us to be the best that we can be.”

Rodgers admits he needs ‘quality’ reinforcements before the market shuts down at the end of the month. He has brought in two goalkeepers in Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo with Paulo Bernardo also returning on a permanent deal after a loan spell from Benfica.

Asked yesterday if any more arrivals are expected before tomorrow’s flag day showdown with Kilmarnock he said: “I’m not sure. There’s work going on, but we just have to keep our eyes open and hopefully we can

My focus is very much with the squad of players that we have now with Paulo in and getting us ready for the weekend. And then we’ve still got just under four weeks to bring the players in that will hopefully be the difference for us. The most important thing is that we do improve the squad and look to do that over the course of the rest of the window

I didn't dissect or scrutinise every little word. I shared my intuitive impression (one some others seem to share). I also provided context for the comments you chose to emphasise and, crucially, I did them in the form of word-for-word quotes. No twisting of words.

There's a deeper difference here too, which is that I can't help interpreting what has happened so far and what has been said in the light of the last 3 windows.

Fact remains that he's laid out in plain language that he and the board know what's required, will do their best to secure it and crucially provides context that it's not as straightforward as most fans think it is.

We all want the same thing here, I just prefer to live in reality, as opposed to thinking we're playing a game of FIFA.

Agreed. Less smoke & mirrors and more calling spades a spade.

Unfortunately our Brendan is a diplomat in the media.

    We only have one striker!

He should be kicking the executive offices doors down.

That is a * downright disgrace. Just as well that cheat enabling fiduciary duties failing smug * Lawwell isn’t unfurling the flag on Sunday.

It is an absolute outrage that our alternative striker is Johnston as we start competitive matches.

Rodgers wanted Idah. That should have been done in June. Offer one rejected, so go back with another and if Norwich are asking for more than a reasonable real valuation then we make it public and move on to another target. (Our smartass negotiating aside, he was worth peanuts in January, so it really should be 5-6 million bananas tops.)

If I was Rodgers I’d be spitting feathers just now. The wee public comments clearly aren’t cutting it.

In private I’d be threatening to walk.

He's said that he's told the board (or Nicholson rather) what he wants. That's not to say they are on the same page. We don't know if they are and I think given past windows, it could easily be argued they aren't.

I get your stance on things, I think we all do. But let's be honest wanting more than 1 first team striker at the club by the first game of the season and more than 1 left back is not living in some FIFA or FM fantasy land as people try to use as a way to downplay other fans concerns. It should be the absolute bare minimum for a supposed Champions League club. That's before we even consider the recruitment structure.

Been said so many times on here over the years when we've had similarly slow, and not proactive windows that people are in a fantasy world. I haven't seen one comment from anyone on here that is asking for anything unrealistic.

That goes for this window, January, summer 2023 etc etc.

The board don't have the full trust in the managers. Otherwise they'd back them 100% every time, be it in the market itself, or behind the scenes set up and personel.

I say this, as it almost lime they revert to plan B instantly. Plan A, get who you want, be proactive, get on the front foot, set the standard. Think big. Make it to knock out football in Europe. (Take care of Europe, domestically it should take care of itself.)

Or.... its risky to spend that money with with zero guarantee of a profit. We might not make Europe, so we need to keep a wee nest egg just for that rainy day!!!

So we just sit there...preparing for a day that'll never come. Instead of trying to reach our potential. Almost maxed out the potential off the field. On the field and set up....* hour.

We all know what the final straw was last time. It was the McGinn debacle. Which was down to Lawwell.

Rodgers has said plenty times since last summer we need quality. It’s so far not happened. He won’t walk without at least having an offer on the table though, and why should he? Why would he walk away from his wage through no fault of his? People are living in cuckoo land if they think he would do this. Is there any manager in history walked aff from their job with nowhere to go because they aren’t getting backed? Maybe been one or two who are failing miserably and have done the decent thing by walking without getting paid off, but Rodgers isn’t failing.

See, this is my problem with your position: it's not that you defend the board's recruitment record; it's that you treat the views of those of us who take a different view with exactly this kind of contempt. Other examples from just the last few pages include:

Wanting more than one striker and left back for kicking off our league campaign is only achievable on FIFA now :56:

Christ, three paragraphs in to a general reply to multiple posters and I think..what is the * point? :56:

Basically if anyone is offended by me giving it out a bit, count yourself lucky you're not me. Day after day for months/years on end reading the same hysterical * is a * grind, believe me.

Would love to get into the finer details with a couple of the last replies I got, but there's no enough hours in the day for it.

The manager has came out and explicitly told you all that bringing in quality players is not an easy task, so if anyone wants to ignore that and demand otherwise then batter in. Excuse me if I choose to rip the pish out of you rather than go full-time pishing into the wind :giggle1:

Enjoy yer 'summer' ya miserable *.

People aren't complaining for no reason though. It's been 15+ years of slow regression, poor recruitment, shoddy youth development, complacency on and off the pitch, lack of forward planning, no ambition, gross underachievement and repeated pumpings in Europe, constantly kicking the can down the road etc.

Defending this approach will see us slip further and further into complete irrelevancy. We've been a laughing stock in Europe for at least a decade. The gap is getting bigger each year and we do absolutely nothing to close that gap, even though we can. In fact, we actively drive a wedge between it, making it wider. It's self-sabotage on a monumental scale.

We're literally asking for 3 or 4 key players to improve the starting 11. We have 1 recognised LB and 1 recognised CF and the season starts tomorrow! We've had years to find an adequate replacement or back up for Taylor. We've had at least 9 months to improve the squad after the shambles of last Summer. We've done nothing, it's * ridiculous.

We're not asking to spend hundreds of millions here, £5m-£10m on a few key players, that's it. All very doable, all very achievable, all within our budget, none of which will make us bankrupt. Some of the supporters' standards are shockingly low man.

You're hardly "giving it out" though.

You're also going round multiple threads saying the same stuff that others may also find equally as boring. It doesn't just go one way.

Rather than actually have a conversation about it earlier when I asked what he had said in the interview you immediately sprang into "giving it out" as you put it.

Again, rather than come back on what people have said here you're dodging it and just pedalling the same stuff and completely side stepping whatever people are saying.

90% of the people on here and elsewhere on pretty much any platform you can think of, are saying the same things. I don't see what is so mental about what people are saying. And, when that amount of the fanbase is saying it, it can't be classed as "hysterical *".

Was it hysterical * last summer and January? What did you think of those windows? Or anges last few? If you're not wanting to answer or talk about it anymore, I'd at least like to know your opinion on that.

I've tried to be reasonable with you as you seem like a semi sensible * at times, but you keep replying to me without actually taking on board what I've been saying. So really you're just another in a long line that is more interested in stirring the pot cos you don't like what you see.

    Welcome to my world.

P.s. I'll back and forth with you when I decide I can be arsed, not when you attempt to use it against me because you're argument is old as the hills and lame as *.

I'm gonna assume one of the two morons on my block list is in here * stirring and playing a victim again?

Anyway, back on topic, anyone not seriously concerned by these comments needs a CAT scan.

Even if the club came out and tried to explain how their preparing for a multi million settlement in the CB case, there still wouldn't be justification for this lack of guile in the market.

Are left backs and endangered species? Do defensive mids no longer exist. Is Adam Idah the only striker on the world?

The manager coming out with these statements is an absolute * show. "Hopefully". Holy *.

We're a disgrace, from top to bottom, and all the domestic dominance in this diddy league can no longer paper over the cracks.

The biggest issue for us is the fact we drag the absolute * out of a transfer, and don't leave ourselves with an actual decent back up should the inevitable happen and another club comes in for the same player, with a better offer.

There is NO real plan A, B or C.

We operate like a * * club at times.

You can pretty much guarantee we'll have asked about a few possible loans from Man City's and Chelsea's youths while in America.

We get told in January that work for the summer is well under way and again in September that work us underway for January. And yet we always either wait until the final few days to sign a player, who by this point we all know is the backups backup option, or we completely * it and get told the same *, "difficuly market" "targets not available" blah blah blah.

Then you see other clubs flying players over, medicals, personal terms agreed, signed and announced in a * day.
