Finished Jack Whyte's The Skystone the first book in his Arthurian historical fiction series. Overall a decent book although somewhat like the prequel he went on a bit at times.

Finished Morgan Llwelyn's 1014 Brian Boru and The Battle For Ireland. I have long been a fan of her historical fiction novels so was drawn to this book which is a straight up historical account of Brian Boru and the seminal Battle of Clontarf in 1014. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Put it down for awhile, but eventually for it finished.

    Great wee book.

Was quite worried how he would write about the English section, but turned out to be quite honest about their approach in recent years and didn't * all over it.

Anyone any other football related suggestions regarding modern/last 30 years of the game?

Zonal Marking was great. Michael * is a bit of a * on Twitter at times but he definitely knows his stuff. Think that was the last book I read tbh. Lee Scott wrote a couple of books about Guardiola and Klopp but it's really focused on tactics during their EPL time - playing out from the back, pressing etc. Lots of diagrams.

The Mixer (another Michael * book) is supposed to be great. All about the evolution of tactical trends since the EPL started.

Few others I've heard great things about:

    Das Reboot (Raphael Honigstein)
    The Barcelona Legacy (Jonathan Wilson)
    Soccernomics (Simon Kuper)

Also, not sure if you've heard of James Montague? Some of his books look very different to the usual stuff. Thirty-One Nil and 1312: Among the Ultras look really interesting.

    Will check a few out

Tempted by the mixer, but I'm not a big fan of the epl, so not sure if it would "convert" me, or just annoy me.

    Socceronics, that American?

Soccernomics by Simon Kuper is not American no. He was actually born in Uganda but has lived in various countries. Seems he lives and works in the UK now but also spent a lot of time in the Netherlands and says he is an Ajax fan unfortunately. The book is very good I would recommend it and his other soccer one Football against the Enemy. In one of them he wrongly said that Englands first ever home defeat was against Hungary which is false. I e-mailed him about it actually being Ireland who beat England 2-0 in 1949 that was Englands first ever home defeat and in fairness he actually e-mailed me back and said he would correct that in future editions. I think that was in his soccernomics book.

Another good soccer book is The World is a Ball by John Doyle which is more about what the finals of the World Cup and European Championships are about off he field. Found it very interesting.

Finished what is really book 3 of the Arthurian historical fiction series by Jack Whyte The Singing Sword. Liked it to an extent but like the previous one and the prequel he does ramble on at times.

Finished Eric Durshmeid's The Hinge Factor which is an historical account of various battles throughout history who's outcome all turned on one crucial factor which very often turned out to be as much about a chance event or crazy decision as anything else.

'The Law of Innocence' by Michael Connolly.

I didn't even realise it was part of a series of books or had anything to do with 'The Lincoln Lawyer' until a few chapters in but thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Jo Nesbo, Macbeth.

was hoping for macbeth to be a new character with a famous name like Connellys Bosch but no nesbo is re-writing Macbeth but in a modern setting, you need some ego to think you can improve on Shakespeare. To be honest I’ve struggled with the last few of nesbos books, I was unlucky in that the first of his books I read was The Redbreast and that was excellent, subsequent titles though nah

Finished Jack Whyte's The Eagles Brood. The fourth book if you include the prequel in his Camulod historical fiction series. Easily the best of the 4 in the series so far for me.
