My childhood hero is 74 today.

Second on the all-time list of Celtic goalscorers with 301 goals in all competitions

    11 League titles

    8 Scottish Cups

    5 League Cups

    1 European Cup

Bobby Charlton said of him, "If I'd had Lennox in my team, I could have played forever."

Alfredo Di Stefano said, "I admired Lennox greatly."

And probably the greatest tribute came from Cesar, who said, "Bobby Lennox knows what it means to wear the Celtic jersey."

A fine gentleman, a wonderful footballer, and a true Celtic legend; * bless you Lemon.

The one guy I’ve always really wished I seen live, out of all the Lions (it was Jinky for a long while obviously). Wished I seen him.

Over the next few weeks, the Celtic View will look at our 21 greatest goalscorers, which includes our current No.9, Leigh Griffiths, looking briefly at the careers of the men occupying the top scoring spots.

Today we feature Bobby Lennox, one of the legendary Lisbon Lions who won the European Cup in 1967. He scored 277 goals for the green and white Hoops, a total that would no doubt have been even higher if not for the offside flag!

    Bobby Lennox
    Appearances: 586
    Goals: 277
    Debut: Celtic 2-1 Dundee; 03/03/1962

Bobby Lennox will forever be remembered as a Lisbon Lion with an eye for goal. He would find the net 277 times for the Celts, second only to Jimmy McGrory in the scoring charts.

The arrival of Jock Stein as manager in 1965 changed the fortunes of both Lennox and the club, with the left-winger appearing in two European finals for the Bhoys. Affectionately known as ‘the outsider’ by his fellow Lions due to his Ayrshire roots, Lennox would eventually leave Celtic having collected 11 Scottish League medals, eight Scottish Cup medals and, of course, one European Cup.

The great Bobby Charlton would pay him the ultimate tribute when he said, ‘If I'd had Lennox in my team, I could have played forever.’

So glad its about highlighting his prowess as a player and not for any other reason at the moment.

Will be good to review some of the greatest ever Celts with this series. McGrory, McLean, Quinn, Larsson et al.

Was building a scaffold on a roof in Saltcoats yesterday before we finished up, directly above his statue. Was weird, the place was empty and that was just standing there in all it’s glory.

Remember cut into his pub in Saltcoats with my Dad when I was a wee guy.

He grabbed a ball that was hanging up, not sure what game it was from, but he stuck two chairs out for me to hit a shot with, lol.

Showed Lennox composure to slot it away, lol. Yes he was a * goalie. :D

Sure i saw him when he returned late in his career to Celtic, remember little of it but think he played V the huns at someplace that wasn’t ibpox as there ground was being fumigated/building work, 40 years ago so I’m a bit vague on details of his return

His last game was in the Riot final of 1980 when he came on for Johnny Doyle.
His last goal was in the 5-0 win over Hibs in the Scottish cup semi final
