There's a website that tells you the average speed per provider, proved to be reliable for me.

    Also gives ratings etc...

Virgin is fast but you will pay for it,My mate is on BT and they have a monthly usage and they break the limit every single month and get charged £5 per GB over.
I use talktalk and have been with them for nearly 5 years...cant fault them....best price out there...no usage limit...speed never drops....thinki am paying..£22 a month and that is...line rental...and phone package...it would be even less but i have free calls to usa, canada ect....£5 per month.

I had SKY for years there and it was good.

Recently switched to BT and no problems. I use laptop and Xbox regularly at the same time.

I don't think you can beat Virgin

5G and 2G on the same router ,must be atleast 8 devices in my house and not one issue

Very rare I even have to re-power the router

    Great service

With BT and have been for years any problem have been resolved and because I moaned like * they add a credit to the account. As for speeds, while I haven't much of a clue about that it seems to work fine, I can watch BT sport and also use laptop/ipad to watch something else so that seems ok ?

    What are opinions nowadays?
Currently with SKY and it is ok.

Had Virgin last time and it was a disaster, major disconnects and drops but I think that was to do with the hub/router they had at the time. I couldn't convince the Mrs to try again with them.

I am thinking of trying BT, slightly more cost than SKY but seems I would get a little improvement on my speed.

    Is BT pish?

I have sky superfast broadband or whatever its called and its very good. Bout 55mbps.

If you have been with them a while play the loyalty card and they ought to give you a discount on the upgrade. I got tenner per month off my broadband for 18 months. And will do the same when this contract runs out.

I only get about 37 down but it is ok. I do usually play the game and jump between (or threaten to) providers.

Virgin would always be my preference. Had it for a few years now and never had an issue.
Had Sky before and had all sorts of problems- struggled to get 3mbps in my house but can get over 100x that with Virgin.

See my street never had Virgin when I moved here and then one day there were guys digging up the road and when they told me they were putting Virgin in I couldn't wait.
When they did get round to installing here they poorly dug up my garden to run the cable into my house, not a good start.

Then we would get constant drops and that. I think it was the hub2 we had or something like that and I read online quite a few people unhappy with it. Devices would try to jump between the 5Ghz and 2.4 constantly. I ended up splitting the two qnd only using 2.4 but it was a pain and still had issues now and then. (By now and then I really mean every other day)

Iv got 100mb virgin and tv and phone thats never been plugged in :56: and costs £24.99 a month. Never had a problem. Any lag in any games on xbox did disappear when plugged in the ethernet cable. It sits litterly on top of the xbox, so if you game, just plug it in. I never used to believe that until I did it.

Bt do a new superfast broadband where its actual optical cable all the way into your house. Depends if that's in your street yet or not.

Same here, I changed to Virgin about four years ago, couldn't believe the immediate improvement compared to BT, lightning fast always and never had a problem with it.

Just moved and couldn't get Virgin, so with bt. Ran a speed test there and saying 95mbps, which is a bit slower than Virgin. Was supposed to be connected on the 13th but they * it up, so just came on yesterday. Customer service seems a disaster tbh.

Thanks for the replies guys. I would like to give Virgin a go again but she's not having it. Reading a virgin forum there and they now have hub3, when I was a customer it was hub2 but there are many complaints that hub3 is worse haha the problems sound like what I was running into too. I start thinking too maybe the connection in the streets no right or a * poor install and all other problems it could be.
Think I'll give BT a shot.

Virgin broadband is good, haven't had any major problems. If you do need to contact them for anything though, rattle a valium beforehand.

I've been with Plusnet for 8 yrs. I get about 20Mb on broadband and rarely have any problems.

If there are problems, the phone gets answered within a minute or two.
