Doesn't really suit our style but a much better backup than Bain..

Maybe he can improve with his distribution here..

    Decent enough signing..

Swiss keeper Ben Siegrist today signed a four-year deal with the champions to become Celtic’s second signing of the close season, with Cameron Carter-Vickers recently pledging his future to the Hoops after spending last season here on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

The keeper is already well known to Hoops fans for his many stand-out performances against Celtic with Dundee United as he’s been one of the main reasons the scoreline has been kept down in many of the meetings over the past two seasons.

It was his performances between the sticks for the Tannadice side that prompted Celtic to make the move to bring the 30-year-old stopper to Celtic.

He told Celtic TV on his arrival: “It feels amazing, it’s a very proud feeling to be here, and I’m really, really excited. I can’t wait to get going and meet the staff, the players, and, ultimately play for this football club.

“I had a phone call from the manager, he hung up the phone and I think people just knew straight away that something good was happening. It was a very proud moment in my career,

'To be here and be representing the football team, the colours, the city and everything, it’s a hugely proud moment, and everything I’ve always wanted to be – at a top environment, at a top team and it simply can’t get any better than this.'

And looking back to those previous performances against his new team-mates, he said: “Of course you know you’re going to be busy playing against such a talented side and international players so I was never short of motivation. And to be here and competing now for Celtic is just amazing.

‘You’re never short of motivation when you play against the best, and ultimately I want to play before the best and compete against the best.’

“So, obviously coming here and playing here is a different vibe, it’s a different stadium and it can be too big for you, but I’ve always enjoyed the big occasions and that’s something I want to bring here as well.”

Not only will the new Bhoy be working under Ange Postecoglou, he will now benefit from the expertise of Celtic’s goalkeeping coach, Stevie Woods.

He said: “I’ve had a good chat with the manager, and his vision for the club, and this is the perfect fit.

“I wanted to be part of it. I know his system is somewhat different than what I’m used to playing, but I’ll look forward to better myself and to learning the system, and making sure I can be relied upon.

“I’ve heard very good things about the goalie coach, Stevie Woods. I think everybody’s told me he’s the best, best, best, so, it’s a match made in Heaven because I want to work and want to improve. I feel like this is the perfect opportunity for me to do so at such a great football club.”

Siegrist will also be competing against one of the best, best, best, though, in the shape of Celtic No.1, Joe Hart.

The new No.31 said: “Joe needs no introduction, Joe was a role model and he’s still is a role model for me. I’ll look up to him and he’s such an imposing figure in the goal with loads of experience – winning titles in England and obviously just being around him, I want to learn as much as possible.

“But I want to compete, I want to push him, he’s certainly going to push me all the way. I look forward to the whole Goalkeeping Union with Scott Bain as well – the GK Union, we’re special so I look forward to a good relationship with all the goalkeepers.”

Hoops manager, Ange Postecglou said: “I am really pleased to welcome Ben to Celtic and we look forward to working with him. I have had really positive discussions with him.

“I know he is hugely enthusiastic about this opportunity and also that he is someone who will add real competition to our goalkeeping position.

'We all saw last season the ability that Ben has, as time and again he delivered fantastic performances.'

“He is a really talented keeper with the ambition to always work, to develop himself further and to achieve success and I think in signing Ben we have made a very important addition to our squad.”

Happy with that. More than happy. Best backup keeper we’ll have had in a long time. Will push Hart all the way and be more than adequate as and when required

Really happy with this, could potentially end up as number 1 if Hart leaves within the next few seasons. It'll be good to already have an experienced goalkeeper waiting

Plus at 30 as a keeper he’s not even in his prime yet.

Brilliant bit of business, been hoping we'd sign him for a couple of years now.

    Bain 's definitely no.3 now I'd imagine.

Always Felt this guy was the standout keeper in the league outside ourselves and the Klan.

Feel more confident in having him as back up rather than Bain.
