We do exactly the same to clubs down south. Infact theres a loophole that scottish teams can exploit. Its how we signed Moussa Dembele.

The best thing for his development would've been to stay with us, but you can understand it from his point of view.

Liverpool are a very well run club, youth is certainly given a chance , but in all probability he will never see the light of day regarding any first team action, anyways good luck to the guy.

Good luck to him. We all make our own decisions.

Time will tell if it's the right decision for him in footballing terms. Guess he'll have plenty of cash either way

I wouldn't be shocked to see Hearts try to get him on loan next season with Liverpool paying the majority of his wages, especially with them being in Europe

    What's funny?

He'd develop more in Hearts first team with top flight domestic football on top of having Group Stage European football than he would in the Liverpool academy

He’ll spend at least a year with them first, so they know what they want him to work on and instill what they want off of him into him. And if they rate him still after that, it’ll be an English Championship or League 1 team that they make sure he’s guaranteed games at.

They’ll work out a roadmap for him and it’s up to him to fulfil it, going back to Scotland won’t be a part of it. The standard up here isn’t respected enough for players they think have a genuine chance.

Wrongly so IMO, but that’s the way they work it. Both Rodgers and Gerrard tried to get Harry Wilson on loan, both times it fell through because they wanted options to make sure if he was fit he’d play and Europe had to be guaranteed or they pretty much found it a useless endeavour. And that was with an ex manager who was extremely highly rated and was a proven coach to bring players to a new level and an ex-Captain they were trying to help out because he’s a legend there.

If they have any designs on him making it, he won’t be going back to Scotland. Never mond to a team he won’t be 100% sure of starting for like Hearts.

    Lol.

Liverpool aren’t paying £600k for a 16 year old to loan him out to Robbie Neilson as soon as he arrives.

£600K is pennies to us nevermind Liverpool, we'll see what happens this Summer, definitely a possibility imo

£5m/£10m is pennies to them as well mate. They paid it that early so they can get him in at this age and develop him themselves. Otherwise he’d have been here and they’d have signed him whenever they decided to shell out the cash if they thought he’d develop to their level regardless.

Ben Woodburn was loaned to Hearts from Liverpool, as I said I wouldn't be shocked to see Doak join Hearts on loan next season too, especially with Hearts being in the Europa Conference

It's good to see players who have left here and done well like Dembele, Tierney etc because it increases the value of our future sales but I don't get why anyone would care about this boy's career now. It doesn't benefit Celtic in any way except big clubs stealing more of our players

Ben Woodburn has been with them for a longer period, and is now in his 20’s and they have no designs on him ever making it at Anfield. Even that though, he got loaned out to England for several different spells before he finally made it up here.

If Doak ends up back in Scotland on loan, it’ll be because they don’t think he’s good enough for English football. It’s a sad reality but that’s what it is.

Doak signing at this age for them is them looking at it and thinking, lets get players in early and develop them, rather than waiting for them to develop in England and doing it. Like they did with Van Dijk and Robertson.

It also lets us use players as an example to prospects across the continent mate. You can point to people thats been succesfull coming through the ranks, like Tierney, or developed into what they are now like Van Dijk or worth a fee like Armstrong. We need examples like that to grow as a club, and the more we get the more they’ll stay here rather than jump early.

Pretty much how I feel. I won't open this thread up again as I couldn't give a * how his career pans out now.

I don't see Doak leaving for liverpool as a benefit to that though, the others mentioned I agree
