This 100%. No true 16 year old Celtic fan jumps ship in this way before he's had the opportunity to make his mark in the Hoops.

He's been advised to take the money and that's exactly what he's going to do.

If he can break into the Liverpool team then he'll have done well, but I'm willing to bet his career will probably be spent in the lower leagues in England rather than in the EPL with Liverpool.

BEN DOAK is on the verge of finalising his move to Liverpool.

SunSport understands the Celtic winger is close to agreeing terms on a long-term deal at Anfield

Doak, 16, is now set to join the Reds - who will pay the Hoops a six-figure compensation fee to land him.

The Scotland under-17 star has started following Liverpool first-team and academy accounts on social media.

And a move to the Premier League giants is imminent after Doak opted to pursue a career in England.

Celtic were keen to keep him - with Ange Postecoglou handing the teen sensation a debut against Dundee United this season.

Doak then came on as a sub against Rangers in the 3-0 Old Firm win in February.

But the lure of Liverpool has been too strong for the explosive wideman and he is set to leave Celtic.

Doak hasn’t featured in the first-team squad since being an unused sub in the 4-0 win over Raith Rovers in mid-February.

And Celtic are now resigned to losing the winger, who scored a hat-trick for Scotland under-17s against Georgia this week.

Asked about Doak’s situation recently, Postecoglou hinted that the teenager had decided to move on

He said: "I’ve said all along that for me, this football club is everything that a young player should want.

"Particularly at the moment. I really want to bring young players into our first-team and give them an opportunity as we have already.

But they’ve got to be invested in our football club. They’ve got to want to be here and they’ve got to want to be here long-term.

"If they see their futures elsewhere or they’re not certain then I have total respect for that

Everyone has the right to make their own decisions.

"But I’m going to invest time and opportunity into the people who want to stay at our football club.”

Has "chasing the money" all over this. He would have a better chance of getting regular game time if he stayed.
Not gonna slag him off, he does what he feels is right for him and his family.

Cant miss what you've never really had. Looks a prospect but thats been said a million times about young lads. If he makes it moving to epl then fair one but i won't miss him as never heard of him until a few months ago and only seen him for 15 mins or whatever. Chances are slim I'd imagine going at this age but its his life.

If he feels he has what it takes then why give the lad *? He knows it is going to be extremely difficult but has confidence that he can at least give it a good go. Good luck to him for that.

As has been said about many good prospects, his chances of getting first team action at EPL clubs is unlikely I'm comparison to staying with us.

Good luck to the lad - he will get more money in the short term but it may be the last we see of him.

Put yourself in his shoes......you're a lifelong fan that made a first team appearance and got a taste for it. You're prospects of making it here long term are high......now Liverpool come in and offer you 12k a week to join their academy.......

As a life ling fan what would you do?

Stay at Celtic and make a name for yourself of course!

    Celtic fan my *.

Big Ange's attitude towards these situations is spot on.....if you don't want to be here, there's the door.

If it was last season I could understand but we now have a world class coach and the club is on the rise, stupidity for any player not to want to be part of what Ange is building. Batter in wee man.

Another thing, is there any truth to this 12k a week ? Or has this figure just been made up in the media ?!

The guy obviously has talent but after already appearing for our 1st team at the age of 16, his path to establish himself would be a lot clearer here. Think if he had committed to us, we would have seen a bit more of him. As Ange said though, he’s only interested in players who want to be here. He will likely go down to Liverpool, play more youth football then be loaned out around the lower English leagues. Just think it’s short sighted with the position he was in here

My guess would be something like this:

Tierney: Came through the academy, fought and trained hard to get first team game time. Earned that, and became a starter and then a key player. Played for a couple of years and won trophies and also captained us on some occassions.

Signed a new deal to ensure that the club would get big money for him.

    The complete opposite of Doak.

Totally Agree with all you have said there. on another thread, someone had intimated that Tierney was 3rd choice LB for the academy team and there were others ahead of him in the pecking order.
IS Ben Doak, the superstar of the youth team?

How is a move to Liverpool purely chasing money?

They have a track record of giving youth a chance. Why not go and learn the position from Salah, Mane, Jota for a couple of years. Get some guidance from Klopp and older pros like Milner and Van Dijk. Live away from home for a bit.

Honestly don’t blame him, it’s not like he’s breaking into our first team when the stakes are so high, so he might as well go learn in a better academy and maybe he will be back some day.

Not quite how it worked out. A few players I believe was actually ahead of him in the pecking order if I recall, at the under levels.
He also didn't get in to the first team squad due to working hard, he got there because of (which is common at Celtic) dire injury crisis that forced us to look to someone just to fill in.

His hard work to remain in the squad is what kept him there.

And it's within that parameters of unlikely chances being given (see Welsh being 20 before a debut due to similar circumstances, dembele being shoved out to the file, McGregor being loaned out at 20 before getting in to the side, Christie being loaned out with view to sell, again only given a chance due to major injury crisis) to youth, why we are now seeing plenty of high potential players at 16 move on to clubs that are much much more equipped to not only develop them during the 16-19 age range, but to loan them out to respectable clubs if need be (as opposed to Greenock Morton in the case of Connell). They are also more likely to get a crack at the first team at ages 18/19 if they show good promise, through encouragement and development (see gilmour at Chelsea). They may not eventually make it in these big clubs, but the opportunities and development is absolutely massive compared to us. From working with better coaches and setups, to just having a better level of club likely to seek your services if you happened to not make it.

Fail at Celtic, these kids end up playing for st Morten, Falkirk etc.

Fail at Liverpool or Chelsea, Bayern etc and you're likely end up at a fellow bundesliga club or at worst a championship club in England.

Folk are saying he is chasing the money, it's so far from that. Of course money is also involved, but it's likely one of the last things.

At the end of the day this is going to happen time and time again. These super rich clubs are hoarding young players, straight into their academy, the out on loan for a few years. Then the financial fair play rules have been bent to allow the next 80 million pound signing. Until fifa do something about it, this is the future of football. Where clubs won't be having youth teams or investing in developing them as its to easy for clubs to poach them at a young age.

Tierney was third choice left back in the reserves when he broke into the team. He wasn’t ever a regular starter coming through and was basically getting a one year deal every year and one of the last to get the deals while other teammates where signing 3 years deals consistently. Tierney wasn’t ever highly rated in the academy and was basically seen as a squad played who’d fill in at LB and LM when others weren’t available.

Doak is seen as a potential superstar at club and international level and has his pick of clubs.

Doak is more comparable to Dembele if anyone but I guess Karamoko not getting a chance isn’t a good argument for people wanting to slate Doak…
