    * yas! We better make up for a shoddy performances so far this season. We're in with the big boys.

This will be a very tough game, but I'm expecting a strong performance from our Bhoys. :celt_2:

At the best, we can expect a no score or a 1-1 draw out of this. They are a very strong team, probably the strongest we've come up against since Barcelona back in 2008.

I won't bother posting formations for this until nearer the time, as we need to wait and see how good Bangura and El Kaddouri are.

Good news for us is that they don't have aguero or forlan anymore.

Yeah but did they not spend £32m on Falcao from Porto?

And btw aren't Celts away? Hence the title wrong?

At least it's one fantastic striker instead of two.

Trying to predict tactics at this stage would be pretty silly, but ah well, I'll do it anyway.

I don't want to be huns so not five at the back, keep 4 at the back, but with two deep-sitting defensive midfielders, Kayal, and possibly Ledley, with Brown, Ki and Commons playing more central and advanced, and controversially, I'd go with Samaras up front alone.

I don't think you'll see 5 at the back for us, but 5 in midfield has a definite chance. It's frustrating Izaguirre isn't fit, as we could've used him for these type of high-level fixtures. Also, if Lennon had brought in a quality CD, we would have had the option to play Mulgrew as a defensive LM, but alas.

    I'd go with:

    Forster

    Wilson/Matthews, K.Wilson, Mulgrew, El Kad

    Cha, Brown, Kayal, Ki, Ledley

    Bangura

Can't decide on the RB position, really. I'm leaning on the experience of Mark Wilson, but I'm afraid Matthews may be the better player. I think all-round that looks like a good, defensive side that can play. Also would mean we'd have a fresh partnership to bring on as subs (Hooper and Stokes) or to keep to win the league title.

Not to mention having James Forrest and Paddy McCourt as fantastic back-up.

European qualification also adds an extra value to the likes of Samaras. I reckon he'll make a lot of appearances this season, with Murphy being on loan and Ras not getting a lookin'.

as much as i dislike Samaras, i think you're right. i think Bangura is too much of an unknown quality so shouldn't be risked to play up top alone.

Its a results driven business so I'd quite happily play with 5 at the back if it meant us getting a 0-0 or sneaking a 1-0 on the counter-attack. Our away record in Europe is so bad, we have to win/draw at all costs.

Defend like * for 89 minutes, then go all out attack for the final minute and * a goal to win 1-0, easy peasy.

    I should be Celtic manager.

5 at the back isn't an option for us, as we only have 2 decent CD's. Maj should not be allowed to embarrass our club on a global level again. I'll allow him SPL games as the quality is lower, but dear me. He'd be defending against Falcao for christ-sake.

I think we could maybe a point out of this game as long as we don't completely shut up and try to defend the whole game. I would go with our usual team as I think Hooper and Stokes could exploit the Athletico defence which isnt the greatest imo. Kayal and Ledley would have to put in mammoth shifts in the centre of midfield.

    Forster

    Wilson
    Rogne
    Wilson
    Mulgrew

    Brown
    Kayal
    Ledley
    Commons

    Hooper
    Stokes

It will be vital to keep control of the ball for long periods in this game which we are more than capable of. 2-2 draw with a goal from a set piece and Stokes getting the other:icon_mrgreen:
