I'm probably one of his biggest critics, but behave yourself!

Needs a spell on the bench to prove he's the man....

Sick of hearing his age being mentioned every time.

His age isn't an issue when he's being picked to play, is it?

He's a good player and will come good but its just no happening for him the now, whereas PB makes a positive contribution whenever he plays. I'd have him on the bench for a couple games.

Young players are often inconsistent and from everything I've read on here, he was playing a different role at Augsburg. I think the price tag makes people think we bought the finished article; but we didn't. We bought a higher calibre of young player to develop. These nights will happen and this won't be the last.

I also (and this is not a dig at you or anyone else) don't see any reason not to trust Rodgers to know better than me when he should and shouldn't be dropped. There must be so many factors to juggle when it comes to that (his development, Bernardo's development, his confidence, his mentality, the nature of the opposition, the occasion, the tactics...). I think we have a really good manager and I genuinely have faith in him to get these things right more often than not. If Engels really does need a bit of time on the bench, I have total trust that Rodgers will do it.

‘It’s quite clear he has the class’....it really isn’t. In fact it’s starting to look * scandalous that £11 million has been spent on a player of such limited ability.

I've defended him and used his aged and inexperience to do so. I still think that inconsistency is expected.

HOWEVER. He's not doing even the most basic things right at the moment and is hiding. That's not acceptable whether you're 16 or 36.

He had a chance tonight against his old club and with his entire nation watching on back home, and didn't look bothered.

    Weird, tbh.

    I don't see what you see. :39:
I get criticism of his mentality, his positioning, his courage, maybe even his work rate at times; but limited ability? I don't see it.

That's all well and good, but his age is used to defend him and criticise him.

His age has no bearings when he's starting in CL games though, does it?

I've yet to see this fantastic ability everyone harps on about to be fair.

BR trying to justify the money spent by playing him. Bernardo must be * off at not starting. Engels needs time on the bench.

I would say it depends. I think some criticism is fair regardless of his age. Some people are acting like he's a bad player and a waste of money, though. In that case, it's obviously different a 21-year-old who is still being developed having these games than, for example, an experienced 27-year-old in his prime. My first post was more addressed at that kind of thing than at your criticism.

Regardless, he hasnt looked like an £11m player.

Agreed though, writing him off at this stage is silly.

Needs to buck up his ideas.

Same. Shouldn't have come out for the second half.

Needs to turn up at least when he's actually on the park, which he hasn't on too many occasions. If he's continued to be played with these sort of performances the real issue is Rodgers.

I'm not writing him off but he's been * pish. Hasn't done more Bernardo to justify starting and id probably even have McCowan ahead of him

Utter shitebag. We should be looking to get our money back on him and spending it on Onyedika

Sometimes a bit of patience is needed. If you had told me just 10 months ago that I would come to prefer AJ to Juranovic or that Kuhn was a better player than Jota, I'd have thought you were crackers. The whole autumn until the Atalanta game, I said I couldn't see any evidence that Schmeichel was an upgrade on Hart. If you had told me the day Ange left that Liam Scales was not only capable of playing at CL level but that he would even put in 3 MOTM performances in 2 CL campaigns, I'd have thought you had lost your mind.

Is this some different Onyedika who plays in English League 2 and will cost £1.4 million?

Just examples of me writing players off too soon. I don't think I'm the only one that does this.
