True. If they are, then I will fully understand why we haven't brought in anyone. However, considering Denayer is only on loan, we are playing with fire are we not, because technically, as things stand, he won't be our player next season, and there is no guarantees that we will get him back. Surely we must be prepared to see him return to Man City.

Denayer has zero chance of going back to City during the summer and competing for a first team place.

Deila has already intimated he would like to keep Denayer past his (current) loan spell, I cannot see why he/nor Man City would deny any requests?

Well in terms of centre backs, our two best are going to be gone come the end of summer. Ambrose is utter * and Mulgrew isn't good enough either. Should be getting 1 in just now to get them ready.

I think we do need wingers/wide players. Obviously Ronny does and that's why he signed one.

We have a few strikers, yes, but at the moment none of them are doing much. It would be interesting to see how many goals have come from strikers since Guidetti stopped scoring.

And we need a defensive midfielder for Europe, particularly the qualifiers. Bitton plays that role to an extent but he's too lightweight.

Findng consistency is fair enough but whenever a manager says they want to come out a transfer window stronger they mean in terms of the squad. At this moment, we are the same as we were before.

Denayer has said that City would like to see him play in a better league next year

Actually, that's not exactly what he said:
However, despite the reported interest from Ajax, Denayer has been vague regarding his future.

He said :”I need to wait until the end of the season and see what happens.

“I must concentrate on the matches just now. There are a lot of things in my head at the moment, and I just need to concentrate on playing games.

“The club has said I am doing well here, but the objective in the Premier League for Manchester City is different, and is at a much higher level.

“So I need to do more again but we will see at the end of the season what happens.”

I think that at the moment the squad is too big as is! And therein lies the problem. If we add more to the pool without serious outgoings more expense, more unhappy players?

I'd personally cancel the loans bar Denayer & Guidetti. I don't think that Tonev or Mubarak add anything we really need, remove them from the squad and I really don't think they'd be missed. The problem we have is that we're losing vital players in Virgil & Denayer in the summer, possibly Guidetti also.

With another probable UCL qualifying campaign we'd be in serious need of a centre back pairing and yet another striker. We're really stuck between a rock and a hard place here! On the one hand we really need/want/like to have these new guys in place before the qualifiers, but on the other maintain the status quo and current partnerships that've been forged this season to hopefully see us succeed!

I don't think we'll get anyone in for this reason! And also for this reason I think the next UCL Q's could end up being another calamitous fuckup! The thought of Ambrose & Mulgrew as a 1st choice CB pairing fills me with dread and with Izzy at LB that leaves only Lustig whom I feel has any actual defensive capability that I believe in! It's a huge stick or twist and we all know how the board feel about Europe as being a bonus!

Sorry that was so negative it's just where my heads at at the moment with us. Ain't nowt that Ronny can really do to change anything. Massive rebuilding this summer, just gotta hope that the powers that be can see it also and actually give Deila the tools in which to do it! Ronny can win a treble this season, hopefully we do it and it puts paid to the doubters not only in the support base but also possibly at boardroom level too?!

Unless there is a deal in place to see him return next season, we must assume he is leaving. We have to prepare for the worst. Which is why I think we should be signing a centre half in this window.

There's never any guarentees we'll ever bring in a good player. As it stands we won't have Denayer in the summer and Van Dijk will go. Arguments about him being contracted to us aside that looks the most likely scenario at the moment.

We need another centre back in and not just as the qualifiers hit. Remember throwing Van Dijk in against Karagandy? I doubt we'll get a replacement with the same class as him.

Aye thats fair enough, hence why I said it would be IDEAL "if" we could get someone in just now, but it would be far from a travesty if we did not, and like I say there's every chance Deila could strike a deal with City fron Denayer here next season (opportunity to potentially play CL fitba!).

IF that's they way it is then it's no different to so many other clubs that are also run this way. It can & does have its many success stories. Lots of Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, German teams etc do this.

....personally I think it's somewhere in between Park identifying the majority & Ronny picking his favourites from that. With the occasional one (or more) coming from Ronny and his coaching team. GMS was identified by Ronny himself and I think Berget, Guidetti, Odegaard (who we missed out on) etc were all from Ronny's own shortlist.

I'll disagree with ye on van Dijk - he will go when WE say he can go, so until that point he will remain a Celtic player (contractually), so I plan with him in contention.

Ronny definitely has a big say in who gets signed.

I'm almost certain he'll be gone. Looked like he was wanting to go in the summer and we said no, then we said no again this window.

Can only go on for so long.

And has progressively got worse since then. Everyone can have a bit of a freak season can't they?

I don't rate the guy. He's too slow and that only gets highlighted more in the centre of defence.

It can go on as long as he is contracted to us - 2 year left.

That is - bearing in mind - should anyone even make an offer for him, which i have yet to hear of any CONCRETE interest so far.....

    Rubbish.

He hasn't played at CB for over a season and a half (consistently), and has by and large been an excellebt patron in the Celtic first team.

Aye and when we decide to sell him it'll be this summer, he wants to go and our board like cashing in. You can cash in on a player with two years left on his contract, you get bumped with a player on a year or so.
