Yeah it's likely a scum virus.. Might be difficult to get rid off..

Is there any new icons that have appeared down by the clock , bottom right of your screen ?

If not , goto start and then run and type in msconfig into the box.. when the tabs appear goto the startup one and untick everything apart from ones you know are safe like anti virus or firewall if you have them.. choose to do a restart..

Can you tell what else is going on? I had a virus on my workstation last week. I lost a day of work trying to fix it. Usually these things tell you that there is a threat and you have to buy their software to remove it. Sometimes it will interfere with your ability to connect to the internet. Is that what's going on?

I have it all sorted now, but that day was terrible!

    I downloaded and ran:
    Malwarebytes' Antimalware
    TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool
    Microsoft Security Essentials

    Have had no problems since.

Don't worry, it's just a spam virus that tried to get you to buy bogus software that doesn't work. The blue warning screen is used to scare inexperienced computer users into buying the bogus software. You can reset your computer, hit F8 several times on reboot, and use system restore to get rid of it.

If this doesn't work, I'll post a link that explains another way to get rid of it.

Whatever you do, don't buy the software.

Yeah I got this a while ago mate.

The virus is just a *, easily editable progam.

If you can locate the System Tool virus (think it'll be in your temporary internet files) it should be a weird filename - just a combination of letters and numbers - anyway, if you rename the file then restart your computer the virus doesn't load up.

You should be able to navigate back to your temp internet files and delete the program.

Get malware bytes and run a scan once you've got rid of it.

Heres a wee guide I wrote to get rid of this particular malware which gives you 2 options to get rid of it: (I realise others have suggested these solutions but thought it a good idea to have them in one place)

    OPTION1:

    System restore.
You can find system restore by clicking start/programs/acessories/system tools. When the system restore window opens, click on a date in bold on the calendar before the time you began to have problems. If the particular strain of virus isnt too invasive this will solve your problem. Download, install and update malwarebytes to its latest definition (as suggested) and run it as a precaution.

    OPTION2:

Clean the virus in 'safe mode'.
Install malwarebytes and update it to its latest definition (link provided above) Restart your computer and continually tap f8 before windows begins to load. This will bring you to a screen which allows you to start your operating system in safe mode. Run malwarebytes from there which should remove the virus from your computer.

    Hope this helps
