Upon reading the statements from the JRG and Scottish govt

all elite sports players where essentially banned from pubs/restaurants but then seen people say they are allowed within reason so * knows more mixed messages

Agree. Came up big in lennons first era but the Ronnie era he was part of the early season flop and never really recovered. That's 6 years he's been journeying about since his last consistent spell

Him and Hooper were unstoppable at one point. It was at the turn of the year right up to the end of the season.

Round about the same time Mulgrew got converted to centre back.

I mind a midweek game at Pittodre and we were worried as we had no fit centre backs, Mulgrew and Mark Wilson played and kept a clean sheet and we blew them off the park up front.

Anthony Stokes is set to leave Livingston without kicking a ball, as the striker expresses concern over training on an artificial pitch.

The former Celtic and Hibs striker signed for Gary Holt 's side last month but Record Sportunderstands he has agreed a mutual termination of his contract.

The 32-year-old will walk away from his season-long deal, despite never kicking a ball in a competitive game for Livi.

The former Republic of Ireland star has been building up his fitness since he signed, having managed just nine appearances for Demirspor and Persepolis last season.

Stokes, however, isn’t keen on training every day on an artificial surface at the Tony Macaroni Arena, and that has been a major factor in his shock departure.

Stokes has had something of a nomadic career since he left Hibs in 2018.

The 32-year-old striker has had spells in Greece with Apollon Smyrnis, as well as spending time with Tractor and Persepolis in Iran and Adana Demirspor in Turkey.

Stokes has nothing lined up but is now on the lookout for a new club.

He has been capped nine times by his country without scoring, with his last international appearance coming in 2014.

Not the best player ever but never fulfilled the talent that he does have. Still imagine he’s quite enjoyed himself as a whole

Livingston FC and Anthony Stokes regrettably announce a mutually agreed termination of the contract between both parties.

Head of Football Operations David Martindale said:

“Stokesy has been in training for approximately 4 weeks now and it’s fair to say that we both knew that there was going to be a lot of work to be done to get Anthony into top shape to play Premiership football.

“In all honesty, it’s not quite worked out in terms of the on-field ball work and intense training schedule we had put in place. He is struggling to adapt to training 2-3 hours per day on the Astro Turf surface – we all know it doesn’t and won’t suit everyone. Of course, Anthony knew the surface we had in place but each player adapts to that differently and you can’t know how your body will feel adapting to it until you’ve been out there and played or trained on it frequently. We know it isn’t for everyone and sadly, that’s been the case for Anthony.”

“Whilst trying to get the player in shape, it’s been extremely frustrating for all of us, staff and player alike, that we can’t seem to get the intense training needed into the player.

“To be fair to Anthony, he has noticed this himself and he approached us with the option to terminate. This allows both the player and the club to explore other opportunities.

“It’s a real shame that the Livingston FC fans didn’t get to see Anthony wear the number 9 shirt for Livingston on the field. In the short spells we did get a chance to work with him, you could certainly see the quality he possesses.”

Not even surprised. Stokes has been on a bit of a downward spiral since he left us, seems to be going from one misshap to the next.

Bags of talent but a stinking attitude throughout his career.

Let’s not forget he started his career banging in goals for Arsenal as a youth quickly moving into their reserves at the time when their forwards were Bergkamp and Henry and they went undefeated in a season, at that point he was one of the hottest prospects in England and it’s just been a case of unfulfilled promise ever since seemingly largely down to attitude, his spells with us and Hibs saw him do well but he’s always been a player who has coasted at best and in effect been a sad waste of talent and just another “could of been”

Could definitely still play at our level if he was more professional. But 60 goals for Celtic and rich. I'd be content with that.

The Livingston pitch is an embarrassment, the fact that they acknowledge it's "not for everyone" yet is allowed to be used as we try to showcase our game to other markets is a scandal.

If he can’t play on that surface then the prospect of 23 plus league games alone on it or the other plastic efforts out of 38.. won’t be good. Even if it’s not a copout... it’s a bit of a ‘cry wolf ‘ situation as his ‘previous’ gives him limited credibility.
