He has the mentality that him not getting the nod against Ukraine, not being in the squad at all, he’ll ram the decision down peoples throats.

Watching this game, in a role that he doesn’t play for Celtic so not the one he’s excelled in all year. His positioning isn’t something that often gets brought up, and sometimes gets criticised for him being inside the pitch rather than covering the winger. Watching him here though, his positioning attacking wise at least, is * class.

Yet, not good enough to play against Ukraine, instead of a left back with no right foot, eh Steve Clarke?

He honestly looked so much better than Robertson has on the other side, was absolutely fantastic.

Surely to *, he must have had a knock, he wasn’t even on the bench. That’s the only plausible reason.

I get trying Hickey, he’s played RWB in Serie A and has flourished. It didn’t work, fair enough, but he didn’t leave an option of Ralston coming in off the bench. Surely that’s got to be something other than a tactical decision?

Said it in the Scotland thread but it’s been a long time since a Scotland player got the ovation he did.

Has to be first choice the rest of this break.

Hutton and McFadden after the game saying even if the plan was Ralston tonight, Patterson on the weekend, that performance puts any plan out the water and he needs to start.

Media being on your side is a major thing, as much as managers pretend to ignore it. The attitude in the media towards Ralston is a big reason he hasn’t had his chance till now IMO. They were still saying in February/April he needs to show it’s not flash in the pan form and to keep it up.

Whereas Patterson was talked up to the hilt, without playing to show it, and he has done very well for Scotland as well btw, but that was acceptable to the masses for him to be in.

O’Donnell playing infront of Ralston, in the form he’s been in, and no uproar about it is down to the medias portrayal of a ‘guy in form needing to prove a place’ rather than a quality player being dismissed.

He was the best player on the park, first half hour in particular he was a machine.

Clarke’s shown a willingness to bring new guys in and take chances on people, he’s had a high turnover of different players being relied on for his team. He does have his favourites as well, O’Donnell and Greg Taylor are two of them. I don’t think he’s stupid, he’s tactically very good. Bit too reserved and uncharismatic as * but he’s no daft.

And if it was a tactical choice to have 3 spare CB’s and no Ralston on the bench, that’s * daft.

Cal is just different gravy man, I watch him in awe these days. All I kept saying in my head the first half was ‘this guy could play for literally anyone’ and it’s true as well.

He hardly ever plays Taylor and he's a total epl snob. McGinn should be dropped but he won't because plays in England.
