He earned his new deal and has been excellent this season, think we can cut him a bit of slack.

I thought he did OK in the main but the first goal was his fault and their third goal he played a massive part in it. Lacked composure big time.

I don't. I think he's clearly improved and deserves praise for that. Which I've given him. I also think he's still not the level we should be looking for, particularly in games like those tonight.

He's got to that point of sort of cult hero status where he can do the bare minimum you'd expect from a Celtic player and he gets praised to high heaven.

That much is evident in this thread right now. You can't criticise the guy or else you're jumped on for having some sort of agenda. I've not been waiting for a bad game to slag him off. I simply have never thought he's the answer and I still don't. It's that simple.

It's a pretty reasonable argument to make, I'd have thought. It completely kills a large part of his game. When we signed him we kept hearing about how good his crossing is but we've barely been able to see it because he constantly has to cut back on to his right foot and kills any momentum he can build. Stick Ralston at left back and it'd be the same for him.

Ralston has been great this season and 100% earned his contract extension. However if we want to go up a level and seriously compete in Europe then he can't be our starting RB.

For the opponent we were up against he was absolutely fine. Few months ago can you imagine Ralston V Leverkusen? Thought he didn’t let much by him all night. His clearance before their 2nd was a bit effy but Hart should’ve done better.

His turnaround has been astonishing tbf but feel he's becoming a little overrated. Meaning, his mistakes/poor moments and performances get kinda swept under the rug because of how far he's come.

He's been great this season no doubt but we should still remain objective. He played a huge part in 2/3 of their goals. The 3rd also came down his side but tbf the bloke who scored it was in acres of space in the box bizarrely.

That's really a next season problem now though surely?

Nothing to say that Ralston won't have improved by then or alternatively we have someone better.

Not saying he hasn’t had more good games than bad. I just mean that when he does make errors like tonight and some fans call it out people treat it like a vendetta when really it’s just affording him the same criticism others receive.

It is a reasonable argument but also repetitive and less convincing over time.

The single time Juranovic played at RB for us he was rank. As far as I can remember he didn't have any decent crosses (possibly no crosses at all). Not convinced by him at LB or RB for teams that park the bus. Think he's killed that part of his game himself.

Not his best game and Juranovic looked like he was going out his way to set Leverkusen up for a goal on the other side.

The defence as a whole is still a major worry. Without reinforcements or some players stepping up big time then we are always going to struggle when it comes to the season defining games.

Hard to have a reasonable conversation about this when you’re hitting out with that.

As I said, stick Ralston at left back and we’ll see how he does against teams that park the bus. It’s a completely flawed argument you’re making.

Credit to Ralston for making it a debate, sign a quality LB and there's genuine competition for the RB berth and that can only be a good thing.

Funny thing is, if Turnbull scores that at the end that Ralston put on a plate for him everybody praises * out of him for the exact same game.

I actually think he had a decent game, despite the goals.

Very unlucky not to have had an assist at the end as well.

I think he has done “Exceptionally Well” since ange took over...but the truth is if we want to progress in Europe I don’t think he is the answer...I still think we are weak in the fullback areas.

Ralston was ok last night and he wasn’t the only one who had difficulty against them. Abada losing the ball for their third, then the laziness of the press of the whole defence is far more of a concern.
